Tsubasa Imai (29) spoke out about his Spanish dreams at a press conference in Tokyo on March 8 for his upcoming Spanish lesson TV show, reports
Mainichi Shimbun Digital and
Oricon.
The Tackey & Tsubasa singer will be the show’s newest navigator, which starts at the end of this month.
“I wish I could work on a Spanish movie with Penelope Cruz. If I could get my way then she would be my on-screen girlfriend. But then again, I think everyone around the world’s going to say that’s not going to happen so I’d be happy to play her son, or friend, or even a guy that lives in the neighbourhood. It’s just a dream I have,” he said.
The show “テレビでスペイン語 (TV de Spain-go)” is the second series in NHK’s “EURO24″ project which wants to focus on what it is like to live in various European countries.
It has been reported Tsubasa had gotten interested in Spain after learning the Flamenco, and has been learning the language for the past two years. He has also visited the country several times since 2007 and has even been there on a short homestay visit.
“I’d always been hoping for a chance to be on a show like this so I’m very honoured.
“I love FC Barcelona. I would love to be able to interview the players one day, and talk to their coach about soccer,” he said.
Tsubasa had even mentioned he would get his singing partner Tackey involved with this opportunity.
“He loves wrestling. He’s interested in Mexico so I want to teach him Spanish, and then we can become the first group in Johnny’s who can speak Spanish. But I guess that’d be asking for the impossible.”
In terms of languages, Tsubasa had said he looked up to his Johnny’s senior Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, who has been learning Korean for several years.
“I want to do what Kusanagi-kun’s done and work hard at this job so that it connects onto another one,” he said.
“テレビでスペイン語 (TV de Spain-go)” starts from March 31 in Japan and will have 24 episodes.
