Oh god, I'm stuck in that cycle of not posting because I can't until I have something important to say about things that are happening in the world, or until I compile the eleventy billion links I have considered sharing with you all in the last couple months, or until I write up all my current thoughts on fandom in general and my fandoms in particular, or until I finish commentary/recaps on the last part of Psych season 5, or, you know. Etc. and so forth!
But I randomly feel like posting, so *thbbwthwwwbth*, you get nothing of importance at all.
I am suddenly a hockey fan again! I started watching the Canucks in the Conference semi-final, and they're such a good team this year that it was really a joy to watch them play, and I don't know, I just started caring again. This Boston final series is about killing me. And I'm conflicted because I have traditionally loved the Bruins, and I lived in Boston, and if it was any other team against them I'd probably be Bruins all the way. And their goalie is fucking AMAZING, and they've been fighting so hard. It felt truly humiliating, as a Canucks fan, watching game 3 and 4, and all credit to the Bruins for making that happen.
But I really, really, really want the Canucks to win! I know they came close in the '90's, but I wasn't watching hockey much then. To me, the Canucks will always be that horrible team at the bottom of the league (with the really ugly jerseys!) from the mid-'80's. So not only are they the closest thing I have to a hometown hockey team, they also still have this underdog appeal in my mind. And I just really so want Canada to win the Stanley Cup! I just want that!
I've been nerding out in a sports fan way by brushing up on the rules, and also by frequently making elaborate snacks for the games. Tonight it's just take-and-bake pizza, but I'm also going to roast some asparagus spears as an appetizer!
True story, I had a bad cold last week and into the weekend, and I was pretty out of it when I watched the game last Friday night. When Vancouver finally scored the goal that would win them the game, I jumped up and cheered so loud and so much that I had a prolonged coughing fit, got dizzy, and had to sit down and close my eyes for a minute. Good times!
I made an icon just for this post! That is my guy, my all-time favorite, Mark Messier, of the Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers. I knew him best as second-line center behind Gretzky on the Oilers, though he also played wing for them. But a couple years after Gretzky left for the Kings, Messier led the Oilers to a comeback Cup without him. And then, THEN, Messier was traded to the Rangers, and a couple years after that he led THEM to a Cup! Their first in 54 years! His breakaway goals were a beautiful thing to watch. I miss that guy.
Wow, apparently I just wanted to talk about hockey.
I've also been watching stuff and reading stuff and thinking about stuff, but ooooohhh god, no, that way lies pressure! And obligation! And that thing that happens when something you enjoy starts to feel like homework! No, this post is just for hockey, I guess. *shrugs*
What've you guys been up to???
