Thank you~

You might be correct. I think it was a trilogy, though I don't remember if that was who wrote it... And I don't remember any of the titles, either. XD Though I think some of it took place in Venice?

Yes it started in venice and then it went to the Underground World and then to Egypt I think over the course of three books and it had a heroine .. and oh! I just think I remember the German name .. I think it's the Merle-trilogy ... or I found the information!

The flowing queen triology for UK
Dark Reflections Triology for Us with each :

1. The flowing queen (american: The water Mirror)

2. the stone light

3. the glass word

Yes, that's it! The Water Mirror. I don't think I ever read the other two- I didn't really like the author's writing style- but the idea of the mermaids was fantastic.

I had a feeling that the inspiration came from today's P-chat. reading the authors note only confirmed it.

But, I don't care for the flaws. I love it anyway! <3

Creepy, bizarre, alien to the right point... I love Alfred in this. He's delightfully disturbing. I especially love the imagery of his mouth. I haven't read the book it's from, but... It's rather chilling.
Putting this in my memories. :)
