What Is This Feeling - Wicked Cast
What is this feeling,
So sudden and new?
I felt the moment
I laid eyes on you;
My pulse is rushing;
My head is reeling;
My face is flushing;
What is this feeling?
Fervid as a flame,
Does it have a name?
Yes! Loathing
Unadulterated loathing

Reading some of your comments above, I am wondering what other Vienna Teng songs were on the list, because she is awesome and I think I have all her music. In general, I am wondering what songs didn't quite make the cut.
Finally, for the record, I think that "King of Anything" is probably the official theme song of Dairine/Roshaun cafe!AU, you know, once I write it.
Actually, I lied, here is the real "finally," and it looks a lot like WHY IS THERE NO MORE DAIRINE AND ROSHAUN I JUST DON'T EVEN. Frankly, I would be perfectly okay if Kit and Nita got a little sidelined in the next book (even considering the whole working-relationship-thing-out thing!) if it meant that Dairine got some screentime and then found Roshaun and then got him back and then hit him, hard. (Talk about violence as affection. Seriously, those two.) And then I guess they could have a "boyfriend moment" of their own, but frankly, at this point I would be perfectly satisfied with them just being back together as the interstellar dream team of awesome.

Walls completely surprised me (most of these songs completely surprised me, actually, I really didn't go into this with any sort of a plan.), but as soon as I heard that first line, I had to add it. Sink or Swim was much the same way.
The cover of Beauty and the Beast I found on another fanmix. My first through upon hearing it was, "Ahahaa it's a hipster modal jazz version of Beauty and the Beast". Cause, uhh, I could see them (either of them) listening to modal jazz. (Especially in Dairine's upcoming hipster teen years, you know it's gonna happen.)
The strongest Vienna Teng contender was Gravity, which probably would have gone along with a quote about Roshaun's people, although I also gave a lot of consideration to Momentum and Transcontinental 1:30 AM. Other than that, I don't remember? I think I listened through most of my Vienna Teng library while looking for songs.
Other songs that got cut were:
Me Against The World by Superchick, which was a part of an early attempt to extend the mix to before they met each other. Obviously, this was Dairine's song. Roshaun's counterpiece song gave me a LOT of trouble - there were no songs that conveyed the sense of responsibility about his situation along with his determination that I liked, or at least that weren't full of manpain. I think I had a couple of Coldplay songs as candidates for that, but I can't for the life of me remember which ones. I know for a while I put in Just Can't Wait To Be King from the Lion King, but, uhh, that didn't last and I'm kinda glad it didn't.
While We Have The Sun by Mirah was also part of the fanmix for awhile. (Hahaha can you tell I kinda went with a theme? LIKE IT IS NOT OBVIOUS.) I think that I deleted it because, at that time, it was leaning towards a more upbeat mix? It is a very D/R song, though.
I am actually surprised that no Angels & Airwaves ended up on here, considering their songs are like my ~theme tunes~ for YW. I know I considered The Moon-Atomic, Secret Crowds, and Shove, but, uhh, like Vienna Teng I'm sure I listened to most of my playlist looking for considerations.
I also put Shut Up And Kiss Me on the list, and it almost lasted to the end. I eventually deleted it because, uhh, there are no makeouts? Also it seemed a little bit too combative.
The final song was a three-way vacillation between Vanessa Carlton, Set The Fire to The Third Bar, and Somewhere Out There by Our Lady Peace. Set The Fire to The Third Bar lost out because it didn't quite match Dairine's determination. While I LOVED the chorus for Somewhere Out There, the rest of the lyrics didn't quite feel like they quite fit?
... that is all that I remember choosing between, but, haha I doubt I remember all of my picks. The only song that lasted beginning to end was What Is This Feeling, which is perfection incarnate.
King of Anything is a PERFECT theme song for Hipster Coffee!AU. I actually forgot that it was canon that Roshaun likes coffee until I reread for quotes, and I squeed when I found that.
Frankly, I would be perfectly okay if Kit and Nita got a little sidelined in the next book (even considering the whole working-relationship-thing-out thing!) if it meant that Dairine got some screentime and then found Roshaun and then got him back and then hit him, hard. I would be perfectly alright with this scenario. Though they also kind of need to get to the kissing already. Seriously. When you've only known each other for a week and a half and the world whites out while you're looking at each other, kissing is pretty imminent, I'd say.

I am definitely thinking through my mix/fic hybrid now! Gah! (This makes 3 unfinished D/R-ish projects: that Young Wizards/Artemis Fowl crossover, coffee!AU, and now this. NOT LIKE I HAVE TIME FOR ANY OF IT.) It would probably be kind of emo though, and not all sunshine and happiness, because although I really really really x1000 hope this does not actually happen, I am suddenly envisioning a scenario where Dairine is left searching for Roshaun for YEARS, developing this obsession around him, but when she finally finds him, he has either 1) been in a place where time runs differently, so drastically more/less time has passed for him than for her or 2) been through some kind of life-changing situations of his own, so that they are not the same people they fell in love with and they have to sort this out, and it is HARD. With ANGST.
(Finally, dear world, I require a D/R icon, stat!)
