So, went to go see Iron Man last night. It was GREAT! I was actually... a little nervous of it... not being good? (I have been burned by Hollywood too many times.) But seriously, they pulled it off! ( spoilers, spoilers, spoilers, kay )
I can't believe I caught that shield at all. I knew he had a shield, and that shield was the appropriate colors. And then that agent was completely scandalized and that cinched it. Amazing.
My ONLY beef was how the formula was hidden in the map. Why did Stark Senior bother with something so completely ridiculous when he could've just written it down in the super-secret notebook?
Though I wonder how much Tony spends on rebuilding his house in any given year, given how manic he tends to be at times.
I WILL DEFINITELY BE GOING A SECOND TIME, BECAUSE I WAS DUMB AND DID NOT WAIT FOR THE CREDITS TO BE OVER. ALSO, IT WAS AWESOME.
The... the science in that scene was KIND OF IFFY to me. Because, like seriously, he just creates a cyclotron in his own basement? (I don't think that can be done. I could be wrong.) AND THEN CREATING A NEW ELEMENT, UHH. (Because those are very prone to radioactive decay, and it would fall apart, probably within the space of a minute. IF EVEN THAT.)
(Except for, lol, the entire bit about him creating a particle accelerator, because of all of the freakout about the LHC.)
BUT THAT IS THE SCIENCE GEEK WITHIN ME, I'D SAY.
I didn't mind so much that he'd hidden it in the super secret map (because it made for ~dramatic storytelling~, also also cool CG), but yeah, I could see how you could nitpick there.
I WAITED, AND IT WAS AWESOME. BUT I WILL STILL GO SEE IT AGAIN.
SUPER FASCINATING SCIENCE FACT: it is currently theorized that if scientists can push a little further beyond the currently synthesizable elements, they will come across a whole new... uh... row (what are they called, periods? groups? I have the periodic table on my wall, so I pretty much fail for not being able to remember the exact term) of elements that are as stable as most naturally occuring elements!
I fail again for not just looking it up in the first place, but I still post on forums more than LJ so I'm not used to not being able to edit what I write. But yeah, they're not actually as stable as "most naturally occurring elements", but a year or even months would be long enough to get some good usage out of something so easy for him to synthesize.
And synthesizing a new, ridiculously stable element is the perfect thing for Tony to do, because obviously he will name it after himself and be preserved for eternity. The only question is... starkium or ironmanium?
I... had not heard about that. THAT IS ACTUALLY PRETTY COOL. (SCCIIIEENNNCCEEE~)
And yes, definitely a year or even months would be good to get use out of a completely new element, but at the same time, I don't think I'd want any of those in my chest.
BUT THIS IS WHAT I GET FOR APPLYING IT TO A COMIC BOOK MOVIE. It was actually a very cool sequence, and I liked it, but I did kind of roll my eyes a lot.

I VOTE FOR IRONMANIUM.
