For epic sagas...this one has definitively taken the cake.  Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is on the cusp of actually being finished!

From a fabulous start all the way back in 1990 it raced through about six books then fell to the point where it became mired in details ad-nauseum at book 8/9/10 somewhere around 2005...It was still one of those series that lingered in my mind and I kept returning to it.  Jordan created a beautiful world where entire civilizations lived and died and the history was as vivid as our own.

Jordan passed away and I, like many, threw up hands in defeat. We were at book 11 and there was no end in sight. (kind of like our doomsday sayers...all gloom and fist-shaking and not much else going on)
Jordan's wife picked up the reins and Jordan's notes and chose Brandon Sanderson to write the final three books...

I'm half way through book 13 and the last one is on the horizon. Sanderson is different in style, but he has retained enough of what Jordan meant to do...that I'm again swept along the current of the storyline...I'm holding my breath again.

For the coup d'etat...Michael Whelan was chosen to do the artwork for the final book as D.K.Sweet passed away in 2011. The change for me was immediate and visceral. I was never a fan of Sweet's art and have always been enamoured of Whelan's work.  His Rand is perfect...absolutely perfect!

So....can you tell I am all geeking out over this!!!! I've been reading this since the year I left high school.
