Daria DVD Boxset Review

Packaging:
Great slimline case, holds 8 DVDs in a flip page style case. About 1 inch wide. Nice artwork collage of all the characters on the back. Inside has a letter from the creator in with the discs addressing the changes and trials of releasing the DVDS.

Discs: All episodes in order, discs aren't divided by season, for example disc 2 has episodes 110-205. Each disc has nine episodes except the last disc which has episodes 512 and 513, the two movies and all the bonus features. Each disc has different character art and clearly labels the contents.
Menus: On the standard episode discs, you get the option to Play All episodes, or get an episode list. When viewing episodes singly, an episode that has a Daria Day introduction (such as the ones we had for Pinch Sitter and The Misery Chick) has its own menu to play with or without the menu. Unfortunately, there is no way to activate the intros when playing the entire disc. The play all feature also only plays the opening titles once, then skips to the title screen for the rest of episodes. Good if you get sick of watching the intro every 20 minutes, bad if you like to sing along.
Episodes: Yes, the music has been changed. For the most part, it isn't noticeable. All the credits music has been replaced with the theme song and during the episodes, song have been replaced with similar sounding instrumentals. But, on some episodes, the change is noticeable or takes away from the episode. I've only just started watching season three, and so far, the biggest offenders are Road Worrier (the REM video gag doesn't work when the song is taken out) and Through a Lens Darkly (in my mind, Daria's dream sequence in the funhouse is firmly associated with the Rob Zombie song playing). Others the change is a bit awkward (at one point in the Big House, there is strange pause where a music cue was) but don't change the episode much. Overall, it's nice to have unedited, good quality episodes which are impossible to get from bootlegs. I especially like having all the Daria Day intros since those can be hard to find online. I haven't watched the bonus features yet, so I'll report back later on those.
Final notes: For some reason, Windows Media Player freezes when playing the discs, but they work fine on my DVD player. I don't know if it's a Windows7 issue, a BlueRay drive issue or a programme compatibility issue, but I am Not Happy.
