It's Paris Fashion Week folks! My favorite time of the year in review:
Giambattista Valli: Started off very strong, loved the black, white and coral theme and all the beaded dresses. But about halfway through, about the time the evening gowns started, it got downright scary. WTF leopard print? And there were way to many looks. Learn to edit.
Givenchy: I liked it more than the Spring Couture collection, but it was very similar. Too similar frankly, it was like they ran out of ideas. And it was all very... bridal.
Alexis Mabille: What... is this? No cohesive theme whatsoever, we go from fur and feathers to bows and satin, random prints, studs??? It was trying to be McQueen and failing horribly.
Armani Prive: I'll have one of everything, thanks. Gorgeous Japanese themed prints and designs. AWESOME HATS. And it was all very wearable for couture. The only downside was it got very repetitive. EDIT PEOPLE.
DIOR: Oh... my... um... I shall quote style.com "On the evidence of today's first Dior couture show without John Galliano, what happens is a misjudged effort to impress an alien thumbprint on an aesthetic that, for better or worse, is one of the fashion industry's most clearly defined."
Well, I wanted to like it. If I was seeing the pictures in black and white, I probably would like it. The shapes were good, the draping was well done. But the 80s colour palette and architectural details were just not Dior. Or, it wasn't Classic Dior. It reminded me of the clothes that were produced post-YSL, pre-Galliano. There was a reason Galliano needed to resurrect the house when he took over. The ballgowns were good though. Those can stay. All the hats need to be destroyed though. Dear God...
