Instructions for American Servicemen in Australia, 1942
Here's a quote from the book:

"There is one thing to get straight, right off the bat. You aren't in Australia to save a helpless people from the savage Jap. Maybe there are fewer people in Australia than there are in New York City, but their soldiers, in this war and the last, have built up a ( Read more... )

A good read indeed!

But... it pains me that it's cheaper in the states form Amazon than it was here from a regular bookstore :I

I read an article that compared the Australian guide to the British guide and how the guys going to Australia were lucky bastards compared to the guys who got sent to Britain. The British guide has a big old list of things you shouldn't do there. ><

Really? Weird...was it put out by a different publisher in Australia? Usually Oxford doesn't change their prices in different countries. Other than India- textbooks and academic books are crazy cheap in India for some reason

I think it was done published by Puffin Australia, so they printed it locally. Might be the reason for the increased price -3-

Worth it though.

((Holy crap, I'm working in my room and this massive Galah just landed on the balcony and started screaming at me))

That's probably it...I have to admit I'm sorta irked I couldn't find a copy on the internet- the US government's usually really going at putting old stuff like that online. but it's cool- I'll just sneak it into my textbook order this week ><

and I totally had to google Galah to see what it is. OTL when I read your comment on my iphone I was so confused because it looked like "Gullah" and for a second, you totally broke my brain. XD

I can still get online on this side, but again, it's like $14.95 :I
Ahhh... textbook orders... How I love them. Especailly when your mate's an art major and you can sneak comics and shit under the radar. Ohoho~

Pft XD
Oh yes, African Americans landed on my balcony and started screaming at me XD
Common occurrence.

One of the most awesome things I got to do when I was in the Popular Culture Studies program was claim all my manga purchases for the year as business expenses on my tax returns. ><

Ok, here's my thought process:
1. A language landed on your balcony ->commence brain breaking
2. Oh my god, there's an animal in Australia named Gullah!!
3. (after widening the screen) It's says Galah *facepalm*

I should take an extra Japanese or Culture class just so I can claim that too ._.

Pft XD
Nevermind, we got there in the end!
I need to speak properly on the internet, sometimes my colloquialisms go through and people have no idea what I'm saying

Aw, it flew away before I could take a photo ;n;
It was... unusually large for a Galah around this time of year -3-

At one point I was considering doing my thesis on slash and yaoi and one of the other grad students was like "hey wait- that means you'll get to read porn for school!" XD

For what's worth, I've never thought you use too many colloquialisms. But I might not be the best judge since I talk to so many Aussies online And speaking of colloquialisms, I can't wait to see that list of 40s Aussie slang- that's going to be a goldmine for fic writing.

Why can't I be doing something like that instead of a law degree?
I can't even claim anything fun on mine. Unless I try to slip the Phoenix Wright games on my tax return.
((P-Probably not though...))

Ahaha... Oh man, some of the really older ones are crackers XD

Yeah, I'm a little sad- I'm going from International Popular Culture and Indian Popular Culture to Collection Management and Organizing Library Collections- not nearly as fun. XD

I keep seeing the previews for Captain America and I'm totally in a WWII-era mood and the slang is an added bonus!

O-Organizing Library Collections?
Uh... What's that about?

As much as I don't like Captain America, I kinda want to go see it...

It's going to be the Dewey Decimal system on steroids...basically it's all about how libraries classify and catalog everything.

I'm more of an X-Men fan than an Avengers fan, so I didn't expect to watch to see it...but damn it looks good as does the actor playing him XD

Ohhhh... Fair nuff I guess ._.'
Sounds like a tedious thing ta be doing though...

I'm more of a DC fan, but since there aren't any good movies coming out, and the marvelverse ones look awesome, I dun mind jumping ship.

I swear that actor. I mean, usually, I'm not into blondes, but daym.
If he and Hugh Jackman starred in a movie together, I swear all females withing a ten mile radius of the event will get preggers because of the pure MANLYNESS of the movie

Yeah- I gotta take it, but god it's going to be boring...

INORITE?! And even though this post is talking about Australia/America, you should ignore that bit and just enjoy the visuals. XD
