I am alive. Despite sensing imminent death while much too close to the barrier at ToC in Milwaukee I am alive. Have I mentioned recently how much I hate Jrock fans and their stupid? Mostly due to that stupid, I was completely unable to render any enjoyment from DéspairsRay's set and left before MUCC even came on.
AND I'M GLAD I DID. OH YES.
Because while MUCC's set was still going THE UNDERNEATH were setting up their equipment and starting in on theirs. The equation would be something like this:
THE UNDERNEATH = better music and NO FUCKING PUSHING OR STUPID, front and center > MUCC = not as good music and FUCKING STUPID PEOPLE and possible chance of dying in the second row
Uhm, yes, I had an EXCELLENT time after I left the main ballroom and went downstairs to the stage THE UNDERNEATH was on. They were win and sex and awesome AND I CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN.
Highlights:
-Taka is made of sex and win. There is no other way to describe him.
-Definitely got an awkward smile out of Masato. I caught his eyes, he made a "WHAT DO I DO NOW" face and then smiled. It was adorable.
-Various members came up to the front of the stage RIGHT IN FRONT ME so many fucking times that I refuse to believe it was coincidence. I was the only one in the front row spazzing and headbanging, and I'm pretty sure they noticed.
-I think Masato tried to throw me pick but it went behind me. BOOO. FAIL, Masato, FAAAIIIIIL.
-Taka nearly getting pwned by his mic cord. He was running over to the amps on the right, and it stuck on the speakers in the middle. It nearly took his legs out from under him, but he managed to turn it into an awkward wobble instead.
-Did I mention that Taka's vocals are FUCKING WIN live?
I think Masato is my favorite now. He was just too adorable. I'm convinced that Taka is mostly responsible for their current direction. Ryo is ALL FUCKING BUSINESS onstage and Tal is wonderfully weird. Oh, and Masaki's hair looks 100000x better in person than in pictures.
The only negative was this fucking stupid girl behind me. She was making stupid fantardy comments and flailing her arms around me. She didn't even know their names. There were definitely some retards in the back making a lot of noise, although some of the noise was coming from the AWESOME WIN people I met before the show. (I hope I have the opportunity to meet them again. VERY COOL PEOPLE, CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.)
I feel bad because I have no idea which songs they played, though at least half of it was dead familiar. The entire set was fuckwin, though. Also, they had 572385230478 times better mixing than Déspa did. Like, I couldn't hear the vocals AT ALL during Déspa's set, but I could hear Taka's as well as can be expected. Their mixing was actually above par for such heavy music. I could hear the guitar above the bass and the bass above the drums and none of it sounded muddled.
I'm also an awful human being and went through the MUCC autograph line despite missing their set. They were very nice. I confused them by speaking Japanese. It was especially funny when I replied to Yukke's and Tatsurou's English with "hajime mashite". Miya and and Satochi let me speak first, and I think I really confused Satochi because he kind of went silent before replying, ahaha. Yukke likes to shake hands with people, so had the pleasure (????) of touching him.
I am so fucking pumped for next week. I'm going to try to actually see some of MUCC's set, but I'm damn well leaving before it's over if THE UNDERNEATH come on before they're done. And I'm DAMNED WELL NOT going near the fucking floor.
Hoshit, that was long. I'll try to make a post about LIFE ETC sometime before the next show.
