We Are As Gods
by Geoffrey Haidar

We are Hasharak’Namis. This is our tale.

It was our dark home of Kalimdor where we were born into this realm. No longer corporeal, we are as gods. We can do things nothing else in this universe can accomplish. We can think things nothing else in this universe can imagine. We can understand things nothing else in this universe can comprehend. We can create things nothing else in this universe had ever seen. And we can destroy things nothing else in this universe is capable of.

We exist within the crux of the realm of reality, dimensions, and mindscapes. There is nothing beyond ability to reach. Reality offers us form through which we can channel our omnipotent powers. Dimensions offer us travel over unheard of distances and times. Mindscapes offer us the unlimited power to enter the bodies of any living being and overcome them. Our spirit and essence is unchallenged, even by you.

We can describe the sensation of energy that we possess, but you would not understand, for your mind is limited. What you eyes see and what your ears hear your mind believes. Your puny comprehension of the universe around you prevents you from knowing how the universe really works. We can tell you that your senses lie to you; your sciences are flawed; and your emotions exaggerate. To that end, it will be your downfall.

We were once as you are. Small. Corporeal. But we were of a dark kind. Our ancient brethren, the Kaldorie, cast us away ages ago. They feared us. Secretly, they knew that we were better than they were. We sought change while they stood steadfast in their monotonous society. In the end, they were defeated by their own stubbornness and their own shortsightedness. The beautifully deceptive Sargeras destroyed their emotional being and the delightfully evil of the burning legion expelled their physical being. For evil knows evil.

We were once two separate entities. Hasharak and Namis. But these names mean nothing, for those who wore them are gone. All that they were is no longer. Yet they exist within us, for we are they. Merged within a pool of swirling energy, we are what you would call a Archon. Blended of the spirits of our darker priestly brethren. They did this by choice; choosing to become more than they were, now we are everything.

But we anticipate that these are not the things you want to hear. Your primitive minds long for stories of battle and bloodshed. Your primitive society could not possibly exist without these. What would you do without war and crime and death? Your minds would spiral into an abyss of untapped craze and you would destroy yourselves. You make up words for things that do not exist, like ‘Utopia’. You are foolish. But we will tell you a story that will satisfy your cravings. And after that, we shall destroy you...

Thousands of Silithid creatures advanced toward the Kaldorie city of D’Alkuz. A wall of Sentinel warriors stood as the only barrier between their adversaries and the last remnants of all they knew. These Kaldorie were aged beyond memory having long ago severed their once long-dangling nerve cords and chosen to follow a darker path. Their homeworld of Kalimdor and this last-standing city was all they knew now. To lose was to die.

Hasharak and Namis stood guard near the center of this wall, knowing only that bloodshed was to come. The Silithid have proven to be an adaptive and versatile enemy. They were almost immortal. When one fell, another grew to take its place. Both knew had faced their share of encounters with the Silithid and lived, but so many of their beloved and honored were not so fortunate. Now both fought not for themselves, but for vengeance against the only foe they could not defeat.

The Silithid converged and the battle began. Instantly, the first wave was sliced into insignificant pieces, their armored carapaces breached spilling entrails and fluids onto the twilight plain. Not a single warrior fell, but the Silithid were ever-present and far more numerous than the defenders. More Silithid were destroyed and again, not one warrior fell. Finally, the first Sentinel was slain and a hole in the wall appeared. The Silithid took advantage and began splitting it in two, and then in three. Hasharak and Namis stood side by side, fighting with all of the combat skills they’d ever developed. But they could see that the tide of Silithid were coming in and it would requirae and astronomical event to shift it.

Without thought, the two embraced each other. Their psionic powers strengthened and ripples of crackling energy began to erupt from all around them. Time accelerated and all that they bore witness to, seemed to stop at once. The Silithid were frozen in place and their own warriors were locked away in the fabrics of time. Their bodies died and were absorbed into pure energy. Eternity passed and time resumed its normal pace. What they once were was no more.

Rejoining the conflict with a renewed sense of self, the enemy began to burn all around them. Mustering their inner psionic forces, they unleashed a star-shattering pulse of power at the Silithid. The smaller ones disintegrated within the onslaught while longer ones were overcome with influence and started wrestling with one another. The Silithid now faced opponents on two fronts, both against the Sentinels they had come to eradicate and against themselves. The battle ended in victory, but the Merged could not contain themselves.

In a fury of self-sacrifice, they disappeared and never returned to the site of D’Alkuz.

But we did not die. We cannot die. We are omnipotent. We are as gods. And as gods, we can create and destroy. And as gods, we shall now destroy you...
