“I didn't expect to write this episode up, but after finally getting to watch it tonight, here I am.” - And that was great to see! Also because it immediately made me think that the episode was good :)
Unless the season goes completely downhill, I think I may stick with this. Actually, unless the season sucks royal monkey balls completely (and I really hope it doesn't), I may wind up buying this season on DVD and adding it to my TVD collection since Caroline, Alaric and the Salvatore mansion will be in it. Of course, it depends if I like the ending. :)
Yes! I like it too. It’s really well done and all the details of it (like resorting to Klaus’ old tricks, heh) make it interesting from the get go. I also like how they dealt with Hope actually witnessing some horrible deeds and avoided some contrived, late reveal. She’s already seen, symbolically speaking, the worst of Klaus, so we can move on from that already.
Yup, yup. She knows how terrible he is. Plus, she's already done some terrible things herself (of course, not even remotely AS terrible, but still she understands the need, the compulsion). And she can understand him.
By the same token, I liked how we had Hope’s doubts regarding Klaus’ feelings resolved within one episode.
YES!
That he managed to say “I love you” and also even under such dreadful circumstances with Hayley’s actual disappearance coming into play, he acted like a good father.
RIGHT?!! It was so good. I loathe her still for her idiocy during the TVD days, but dangit, I will admit it, she has written some good TO episodes. (Talking about Carina MacKenzie. It's just galling. Wealthy family, got her job through connections, fangirl'd over TVD during her job, crapped on fans by ass-kissing Plec, used that to get in with Plec, writing on TO, and now she's got her own freaking show on the CW. It's just... ugh.)
“All the beats leading up to their final scene where Freya told her to leave were perfectly played out.” - Yes, it was very moving and sad. But maybe the break-up resulting in a trip abroad will at least make a happy ending possible? Leaving NOLA may definitely increase Keelin’s chances of survival.
We better get a happy ending with these two!!
“Not only were the established relationships handled well, but the newest one-only briefly touched upon the premiere-Hope and Roman was given a good introduction as well.” - Agreed! On a side note I don’t trust the guy. But maybe his secret agenta (I feel like he has some) at least isn’t evil.
I'm hopeful he doesn't have one, and that's it's going to be some star-crossed thing like the Romeo/Juliet vibe they talked about pre-press. Plus, if there is a Hope spin-off (I did read that), then I could see them wanting to have this be a part of it, but still... it's Plec, depending on the reception, she may want to start off with some new hot young thing. I did like their chemistry and interaction. It was only one episode, though.

“I may wind up buying this season on DVD and adding it to my TVD collection since Caroline, Alaric and the Salvatore mansion will be in it.” - That’s a valid reason to add it.
I think so. :)
“it's Plec, depending on the reception, she may want to start off with some new hot young thing.” - I’m hoping for Damon and Elena’s son to fill that role!
Uhm, I don't see how that would work. Damon and Elena's kid would be at least 4-8 years younger than Hope and that's being generous that they had the kid while Elena was still in med school. Remember, Hayley was pregant in season 04 and by the end of the series the show caught up with the timeline, so... yeah, no.
^^ But I'm not sure Julie will be feeling generous enough to bring a DE’s kid into her new show...
I don't know if it's so much as generous as would she be able to get Ian and/or Nina to guest-star occasional as their parents to show up for their kid at the school since the spin-off was greenlit (Legacies is the name).

Your write-ups are always a delight to read :)
Aww, thank you. :)
