Anyone who reads my Vampire Diaries commentary is well aware of how much I love this show. It is officially my all-time favorite and I was very happy and quite satisfied with the finale. Overall, I think that for a series that ran for eight seasons with 161 episodes, executive producers Julie Plec (who alone helmed the show from day one), Kevin

1) I'm glad you were able to find some peace about the mishandling of Alaric's character and his cruelty towards Damon. I, too, wish that it had been given proper resolution, a proper reconciliation for them. True, there was at least an attempt to show that Alaric regretted his terrible treatment of his best friend and his neglect of the others. It just wasn't enough.
2) Bonnie really felt like a pod person when she took the cure out of Elena's blood without her consent, not to mention Caroline for utterly failing to stop her. At the very least, we should've gotten a scene where she talked to Elena via dreams, like in 6x22. Even if Nina wasn't available to film it, we could've gotten Bonnie's side of the conversation and thus seen and heard her reactions to whatever Elena was saying - that could've conveyed the point that Elena understood what was at stake and agreed to the plan. Boom - that would've taken the sting right out of it. Such an easy solution, and they didn't use it? No excuse.
3) Oh, Lord, the sire bond. I, too, maintain that it was never real, that Klaus made it all up to manipulate everyone into getting the cure so he could turn Elena human again and use her blood to make his hybrid army. I really wish that the show had brought Meredith back long enough to reveal that the blood she used wasn't Damon's; he'd just assumed it was. That one little detail would've upended the entire frustrating mess and shown Elena's friends what hypocritical idiots they were being. How vindicating that would've been.
4) I hated Stefan for being so stupid and selfish with Elena. I really did. Lexi deserves blame, too, for her terrible treatment of him and Damon both. Why were they never called out on their crap? This just makes me relish fanfics where they are called out on it all the more. Again, it would've been vindicating.
5) *sigh* Yeah, the Bonnie and Enzo romance really wasn't handled well. Shame. I'm not sure exactly how I would've fixed it, so I'll defer to your expertise.

No, it wasn't enough, but as I said above to tj2013, I'm hoping that when I do my rewatch without the expectation of TEAM!BADASS!BROMANCE in full-on-awesome mode upon Ric's return that I'll be able to take in what we got and enjoy some nuances and see even more than I do now. I might even find a deeper, richer understanding.

See that wouldn't have worked for me because it would have been the exact same scenario, in my opinion. We KNEW what Bonnie's point of view was already from what she told Enzo and Damon in her phone call with him. It wasn't her cure to take. It was Elena's, and Elena had already decided that cure would go to Damon. Period. To just willy-nilly play with the idea of transferring it around like no big with having no clue whether it would or would not work was just, well, stupid.
The show wanted to get the cure ooh!shock into Stefan and, I honestly think, had the Bonnie-character-arc about doing for who planned that had to be streamlined, and they decided: 'Hey, let's combine the two!' Nevermind that it made Bonnie look selfish and terrible and it was totally out of character and illogical in so many ways and made Caroline and Damon out of character too.

Yup!

Yup x2.

Well, you know I didn't (and don't) hate Stefan, while I do have my Lexi issues, LOL! But.... after responding to florencia7 above, I actually do have a response to the Stefan part of now and am going to edit that in.

Just use those 15 episodes in season 07 to tell their story, OR make their story in season 08 about BONNIE and not this grand romance. Ah well.
