I think this whole “ghosts watching the living”-scenes were made for the still living characters and didn’t concern the dead so much. It’s like the show saying “no matter what, those you love, but who are dead, still are never going to leave your side. They’ll always be there with you right by your side even if you can no longer see them. (And in the end, when you die, you’ll finally be reunited with them.)”

Yup, yup, yup. Aww, I'm getting all verklempt again. For whatever flaws the finale had, overall, it really got the tone just so, so, sooooooooooo dang right!

Exactly, which is why I still don’t understand why Damon and Elena looked so young in the afterlife-scene, when they’re supposed to have died at an old age. Sorry, it just bugs me.

But how would Elena know that? LOL! Besides, again, it comfort in one's self *and* peace! Just tell yourself that! :nods:

On one hand, I had to laugh at how it was simply a matter of Bonnie telling Elena that she's finally gotten good at that magic thing. Uh huh.

-> That was a really bad way out for TVD. Like you I would have expected something better that makes more (or any) sense

It was mostly eye-roll-worthy for me because they LITERALLY had a reason: SHE DIED! And that death had nothing to do with magic. Boom! That doesn't negate the spell that Kai set up. It's not like they would ever play with death (without resorting to magic to save her life--which WOULD negate the spell) so therefore her dying--even for a second--wouldn't negate the spell. So, again, yeah, her dying should have been what broke the spell. :shrugs: It is what it is.

It was also not addressed how Elena ended up in Damon’s room as the boiler room was spelled to keep her captured in there. She knows how to perform magic and fighting hellfire wouldn’t make her become a magic encyclopedia or something like that, now would it? So what happened that made her become this much better in regards to her magical abilities in a matter of a day?

It wasn't about doing those things specifically that did it... it was about realizing that she COULD do it. The witches weren't actually there. She wasn't actually channelling their magic. She didn't have the magic of every Bennett witch helping her, chanting alongside her. Bonnie was actually doing all of that by herself. That is why we had that final shot of her standing all by herself saying "I did it." Because SHE, BONNIE BENNETT, did it. All by herself. Throughout the entire series she has been questioned, her ability has been questioned, she has questioned herself. She has lost her magic here, there, it's been taken away from her, she's lost it because she didn't believe, she went this whole season without having it. But now, for the first time, she was shown fully, completely that yes, she is THAT strong, she is that powerful, she CAN do it. She is a witch of one of THE oldest (if not the oldest) witch bloodline out there and she now knows how to channel it. And she finally, fully believes in herself. THAT is what it was about.

[This] was just very farfetched and ill-conceived (and inconsistent with regards to Bonnie’s abilities as I think)

And the above paragraph is why I just can't agree. Give me character over plot point ANY day of the week. It was all about Bonnie's character.
