"So if they weren't going to figure why Damon wasn't able to, again, why that repetitive conversation? Unless… the point was to remind viewers about that very fact." - Yes, I think the point might have been to remind us about it, not necessarily the gang.
Alas, there was no point. That was never brought up about the fact that the only reason that Enzo was able to break free of Sybil was because of all he had gone through as an Augustine vampire. That's another thing that did disappoint about this season. Ah well.
"I keep pointing that out, but the fact that Damon isn't using "kill" instead of "murder," I think highlights just how very wrong he found their action." - Yes, it was very noticeable.
But again, it led nowhere. Alaric (nor Matt--although, it's really Ric I hold accountable here since Damon *did* kill Tyler) never apologized to Damon, never acknowledged that Damon was the one who saved his daughters and yet Ric killed him for doing that. UGH!
"Going back to my earlier point, though, Damon was wrong when he said that Matt looked psyched." - Well, maybe just Zach got it wrong acting-wise? Lol The reason why I think that, is because of what we got a couple of episodes later, Damon's apology regarding Vicki. Apparently, it was the closure Matt needed and Damon never got to delivering it until then. So maybe that was intended to be the reason for writing the line that Matt looked “psyched”?
I don't think so. I really don't. Damon, like just about anyone else, just wants to believe that those he loves more wouldn't want to hurt him less. He wanted to believe that it would hurt Ric more than it would hurt Matt less... likely because of the Vicki situation.
“As she handed Damon his gift, she told him that he would ask for her forgiveness one day. I was like whu? Ask forgiveness for what?” - I think she meant that in a general sense, maybe? Forgiveness for every wrong think he's done to her ever.
Sorry, for me it goes back to the fact that this was not one of the better written episodes. *sigh*
“Booyah! Cade calls it like he (and I) sees it.” - Yes, it was a really a great moment of truth, however, (and I can't believe I'm typing that lol), I don't think that was entirely fair to Stefan. The supernatural drama could've caught up with Elena one day anyway. She was the doppelganger and that was something Stefan had nothing to do with. Abby put down Mikael because he was already on the trail. Katherine could've still come up with an idea to trade Elena for her freedom. In fact, if Elena wasn't dragged into the supernatural the way she was, she might have just one day been kidnapped or killed without having idea what or why it was happening.
Would she have though? The only reason that Katherine came up with that idea is because Klaus knew about Elena. Katherine had successfully managed to stay away from Klaus. Klaus had zero clue where she was. By making a deal with Klaus for Elena, she would have been exposing herself TO Klaus and knowing Klaus as she does, how she could possibly be sure that he wouldn't just kill her anyway? She only would have offered up Elena because Klaus knew where she was. Abby taking Mikael out only happened as a precaution and that was more than a decade ago. No one else knew about Elena. No one. Stefan truly is what brought all of them back to Mystic Falls... Damon*, Katherine, Isobel, Elijah, the other Mikaelsons, etc.
* Yes, he was there before Stefan, but he only intended to get Katherine from the tomb and then leave with her, not make his presence known. He only came out of hiding when Stefan made *his* presence known... because he had to know Elena.
“She only killed twice as a vampire, and once was to protect her family against a ruthless hunter, and the other time was when her humanity switch was off.”- A little adjustment: 3 times ;) (Jamie in S5, to protect Damon.)
Jamie was a vampire. I was thinking of humans, but yeah, she did kill Jamie the vampire too.

Did the writers make some kind of decision regarding that? If so, why? Or was it rather accidental snow-ball effect that eventually no one knew how to properly fix?
Or did it slip through the cracks? I just don't know. It saddens me greatly though. It is my biggest regret of my biggest show-related regret: Alaric's return.
"Stefan truly is what brought all of them back to Mystic Falls... Damon*, Katherine, Isobel, Elijah, the other Mikaelsons, etc." - Hm, yes, you're right. That's true. On the second thought, yes, I agree.
