Here's my write-up for the latest episode of The Originals.
Cuz I really want to scream. Really? You couldn't kill Tyler, Klaus? *sigh*
So stupid. I mean, really, really stupid. There was no reason, absolutely no plot-driven reason whatsoever on this green earth to NOT kill Tyler. NONE. And that was pretty much made clear by the final scene. Klaus has enemies. Tyler knows information that Klaus wouldn't want enemies to know. Did Klaus find out that information after he let Tyler go? Yes. How easy would it have been for him to track Tyler down since Tyler was still in New Orleans? Oh, I don't know... super-duper easy!! Did Klaus even try and track him down? NOPE! So Tyler wasn't killed and secrets (thus stupidly-manufactured drama was created)! ARGGHH! The only reason that Tyler wasn't killed is because Trevino is a regular cast member on the mothership show and for some reason despite killing characters (even original regular cast members) willy-nilly off on that show, they just won't kill off the useless, have-no-fricking-clue-what-to-do-with-him Tyler.
Oh, and let's not get into the fact that a one-year old hybrid was able to hold his own for longer than ten seconds with a THOUSAND YEAR OLD VAMPIRE!!! Come on. REALLY!?!?!?
*sigh* I can't do this. The complete and utter ignoring of the fact that Elijah has been shown to have eyes for NO ONE but Katherine (and, OK, fine, we were told, Tatia -- which is why Elijah was first drawn to Katherine) and now suddenly he's one with the ladies. The complete and utter ignoring of the Elijah/Katherine love story.... And yet he's all into Hayley, no explanation, just nothing. I just can't.
This whole epic, twu wuv Rebekah/Marcel love story that is moving way too fast. I don't buy it. I do not buy it. No, no, no, no. And it feels like a slap in the face to not only Matt and Rebekah, but also Stefan and Rebekah. No, no, no, no, no.
Finally, I figured out my biggest problem is that The Vampire Diaries is grounded in realism. It's real life with supernatural elements mixed in. The Originals is mostly supernatural with bits of reality thrown in. I personally clearly prefer the former.
I'm not saying it won't get better for me. This is only its seventh episode, and it took seven episodes for TVD to get amazing for me, and thirteen to get OMG!Awesome. Obviously, TO is not there yet. It could get there. But right now, it's not. It's too over-the-top. Other than a handful of the actors, I'm not impressed with the acting and unless an episode is written by the TVD writers who have a very strong handle on the characters already from TVD, I'm not impressed with the writing. So, this is gonna be my last write-up for TO until it impresses me again. But, hey, that could be next week. Who knows?
But, man, not killing Tyler? Not a way to endear itself to me though.
