Bones & (A Little Bit of) Justice

Well, my sister sat down and watched my 2nd favorite new show (Bones) from last season's premiere with me (the first being my beloved, cancelled too-soon Killer Instinct). We also watched a bit of the new Victor Garber show, Justice. My thoughts and hers below the cut.

Hmmm - I loved Bones last year. And I thought there were several good moments last night but I don't think I like the new boss very much. First I miss Goodman and I don't think his character would have just ducked out without letting Bones know. Secondly, the new boss just seems all kinds of cliche to me. I don't like the actress very much and every scene she was in I just felt like - hurry up and get this over with. Plus her extra scenes really took away from making the victims real to me- they seemed very cardboard last night.

Thirdly - I like the Man of Spam type of experiments and if she's going to mess with that - she has to go!

DB really slimmed down a lot for this role and it suits him. He was getting a little beefy towards the end of Angel (must of been all that synthetic blood - hee!)and I think it rachets up his sex appeal. The chemistry between the leads was still there and nice and strong. Loved his human remains line to Cam.

But bottom line the show was a little meh to me - not quite the premier I was looking for. Insertion of new characters is always awkward so I'll cut them some slack but why tamper with a good thing? I liked the way it was last year.

Justice - honestly I only saw bits and pieces but I liked what I saw. I'll always love VG because he kicks all kinds of acting ass but I also liked Kerr Smith last night too (now what was TVguide talking about?) Didn't catch it all as I said but I caught enough to want to watch it again.

(which bummer - I already have way too many new shows I want to check out this year)

Sadly, I wasn't as impressed with Bones as I hoped to be, but thinking on last year, the first episode wasn't impressive either and I don't really know many eps (other than a few) that were all that impressive on their own. It was the build-up, the weekly familiarity of the characters that made me love the show. I'm hoping that in a week or two, that growing love will be there again.

I need to watch the whole thing, and uhm, yeah Amanda Seyfried is on next week, so woohoo, it becomes appointment TV!

My Fall EW TV Guide is waiting for me at home (unless the issue hasn't come out yet, which makes no sense as the fall tv season started THIS week), and I'll make my list based on that.
