It was a great episode, yes. It hit all the pacing beats that the last episode missed, as well as having great character stuff. And naked Damon. All the Damon/Elena stuff was amazing. Love.

Yup, and I keep going back to my idea that this was supposed to the episode we returned from the hiatus on. Having "The Descent" be the mid-season finale makes so much more sense. Rather an ease-down before the hiatus with the one-two-three punch of the cliffhangers at the end, with all three touching upon enough of the interest of viewership (what's Uncle-Daddy John up to? What will happen with Tyler and Caroline? What's gonna happen now that Damon is maybe bad again?) to sustain us and keep us going OMYGOD!what will happen before this episode with the boom!boom!boom! so much happening. Just makes so much more sense.

And, honestly, having so much Damon/Elena in the pre-hiatus episode and the post-hiatus episode makes a lot more sense when D/E ARE by far the more popular couple fandom.

Man, that final bathtub scene was so unexpectedly, awfully amazing.

Yeah, I'm kinda with him on that, too. And so is Stefan, I think. He's fretted over Damon/Elena while Elena was still busy actively hating Damon.

Very true. And I'm percolating some deep thoughts in my head about that and the whole Damon deserving Elena trend that's been going on this season.

Poor Caroline! Jules and Brady are so dead to me. And Tyler had better step it up or I will not be letting him back into my heart for... ever.

I guess because I'm just not as into Tyler as others it's easier for me to just be done with him, LOL! Plus, my Stefan/Caroline shipper heart resents Tyler and Caroline. Gah! I love Stefan and Caroline SO MUCH! They were perfection in every second of their scenes together.

What we ended up getting in 2x11 is starting to bug me now (where it didn't before) because interesting things seemed to have happened off-screen (... did Bonnie and Jeremy hook up, as their giggly flirtiness of 2x13 implies? What? Actually seeing that would have been so much more interesting than half of what did happen in 2x11). And maybe it would have fixed the pacing if they'd ripped the plots of 2x11 and 2x12 apart and made them one episode instead.

And it would have been such a punch to start the break on John arriving and Damon killing Jessica. That would have caused so much buzz and speculation throughout the fandom during the hiatus.

I'm percolating some deep thoughts in my head about that and the whole Damon deserving Elena trend that's been going on this season.

I look forward to reading them!

I do like Tyler and S/T, but, yeah, Stefan and Caroline just sparkle. I think Stefan has almost as much dynamic chemistry with her character as he does with Damon.
