A meme aobut your Top five doomed ships, okay then. Well, I may have never had a couple that made it big or lasted long, but coming up with this list made it clear that I haven't done as badly as I imagined couple-wise. I had a tough time coming up with five, and of those five, only three of them have I been long-term obsessed with. So that's ( Read more... )

Bearing in mind how subjective this all is ... :)

The one I share is Harry/Hermione. Not that I saw in the JKR's books what you have -- amazing love story, etc. I found her to be good at plot-weaving, but as to anything personal, to do with nuance, character depth, etc. Most of her writing wa, to me, singularly uninspiring. As were her pairing choices. That aside, I really wanted Harry/Hermione. Because, like you said, it was a hell of a lot more organic, believable, and strong. Than anything else, really, in terms of romance in those books.

I've never been into the X-Men, so I can't really comment on chemistry. From what little I did see, it feels like there's an age difference that's ... troubling. lol. But I really don't know, and there have been matches of greater disparity. I'll trust you on this.

House and Cameron. You say chemistry, I say "eeeeek!" Now, here I would find the almost 20-year age difference icky, but that's the least of my problems. Starting with the fact that he is a sociopath, she has a martyr complex, and two psychosis just never make a good match. Also I couldn't really see the chemistry. Every time they flirted, I cringed. It felt grotesque and wrong to me.

And speaking of psychosis, Izzy and George! Those two come from the show that is populated by irreparably neurotic. And they shine among them. lol. Izzy started out well. I liked her. She was a fighter, she had something to prove, and she didn't take crap from people. Then, of course, she developed a shiny sanctimonious streak that grew like tumor and basically ruined the character for me. By the time she went completely bonkers (and I count that time from the moment she met Danny), I couldn't care less. And George I just didn't like from the start. He just irritated me in that way a character can sometimes, for no deep reason but just because they rub you the wrong way. It wasn't that I found him any more insufferable than the others, just that I couldn't make myself care about what happens to him (I did care for a while about the others). They might have had chemistry, but it was hard for me to notice, because it was hard for me to pay attention to either one of them.

Xander and Buffy. You really think Xander was gorgeous? I always thought his face was a bit ... off, somehow. (I didn't think Angel was that good looking, either. And for all this talk about Boreanaz's "presence," I didn't feel it). I did think Xander was engaging and endearing, and I liked his character a lot. But watching from day 1, I didn't for a second ship him with Buffy. Didn't see anything between them other than his initial crush on her. On the other hand, I did want him with Willow. I know you are not a fan of Willow, but I loved the girl. :)

I want to say: You know me well enough to realize I am not denying you any of your choices. If you feel it, you feel it. Heck, I had/have ships that not many support or see anything in. But that's what makes it fun to talk over. :)

Gah! That was me, up there! Got disconnected from LJ and didn't even notice. Weird. Anyway, sorry for the inadvertent anonymous reply. lol.

ETA: "Got disconnected," not "God." What is wrong with me today? Can't seem to do anything right! :)
