I'm back ... with life, tv random thoughts and Billie art!

Nov 02, 2008 08:16

Phew! So the week of stressful hell has passed! Thank goodness. I've been catching up on TV and rest the last day, thus my lack of presence. Behind the cut, some real life stuffies, some tv thoughts, and a new Billie wallpaper I just made.

First, so as I edited in my woeful post about missing the first scheduled interview, I did get a reschedule. The first thing she told me was that my missing that first appointment could have been grounds for disqualification but that she was NOT disqualifying me {thank goodness!!}, but that I couldn't be late for any future appointment because basically that was it. This was on Tuesday, on Wednesday I had a medical evaluation at 7am, Thursday, a psychological evaluation at 8:30 am. I am NOT a morning person, and I SUCK at directions. SO! My sister and I drove to both locations Tuesday night to make sure I knew where they were.

The first location was about 25 minutes from where I live, but since I might be hitting morning traffic, I left the house an hour and 15 minutes early. So I arrived at my 7am appointment at 6:10. Fine by me! In what I was told would be roughly a four-hour evaluation, I was done and cleared in fifty-two minutes. Woohoo!! The second location was about thirty minutes away, but I would driving on two main highways, including one that drives around Atlanta, so I left an hour and a half early. I made it there ... a half and hour early. Again, totally fine by me! I'm pretty sure I passed that one too.

So now I just have to wait. I've done everything I can (in a process that's consisted of six steps and three months) and now I'm waiting on the paperwork. If I get the job (and the hirer basically told me that if I pass my medical and psych evaluations, and all of my background checks out -- so, yes, Mia, you should be getting a call! -- she's going to hire me), I'm looking at a most-likely December 1 start date. If I'm really lucky, November 17th, the latest would be December 15. Either way, by Christmas, I'll be doing so much better financially than I have in years ... YAY!!!

Phew! With that all done, I did my civic duty and did the early voting thing. I stood in line for two and a half hours, but it was worth it seeing a click next to Barack Obama's name for president. Then I went home and just breathed a deep sigh of relief. Since I got home that Thursday, I've felt much lighter and freer than I have in ages! Thanks to all for their good thoughts.

Now, tv thoughts ... I haven't watched everything I'm still behind on -- plenty more to go -- but I've made a dent. Woohoo. So quick thoughts on what I've watched:

Gossip Girl - Still just watching the Chuck/Blair stuff mostly because I SUPREMELY do not care about anything else. I want to like Jenny's storyline actually, but Taylor Momsen is so very annoying. I haven't liked her from episode one. I would have preferred had they not made Chuck/Blair about "love" yet, and just kept them sleeping together and scheming together. I do like that they put the silly games between them to rest because they were hurting both characters, but again, I wish they'd gone a different route all around. Oh well. Meester and Leighton have chemistry and things are still pretty much in character.

DWtS - Seriously, I'm JUST watching Julianne/Cody and Lacey/Lance now. I do NOT care about anyone, anything else. And, sigh, Julianne. Hopefully, she only misses one week due to her surgery, but hey, at least it's Edyta partnering Cody in the meanwhile as I do love her. Results: THANK GOD!, Cloris was voted off putting us out of our misery. Phew!

Eli Stone - This week was MUCH better than last week -- which was just awful, terrible, dreadful, easily the worst episode ever! -- but still not as good as the premiere or last season. However, it looks like it's upswinging again, so I'm hopeful, it will return to its utter awesomeness with the next couple of episodes. I have thoughts on Maggie/Eli, but I'm waiting to see what happens what with some spoilers I've seen elsewhere. My big concern is, of course, the ratings. Sigh. Oh, ratings, you are the bane of my tv existence.

Dirty Sexy Money - I realized something last night. Blair Underwood is a good-looking, charming guy; he's a great actor too. BUT, I don't like him as a performer. I've seen him in several things, but I always invariably wind up not liking his character -- whether I'm supposed to or not (and yes, I know I'm not supposed to like Simon, but I should enjoy not liking him; I don't). So, I'm hating the Simon/Karen storyline because I like Karen a lot and I hate how stupid he's making her look. And I want Nick and Karen together.

I want them together because I like their history and I do think the actors have chemistry, but because of how I feel the show has mishandled them thus far, my main reason I want them to hook up now is because that helps clear the way for Lisa and Jeremy. And I don't even like Lisa, but man, Lisa with Jeremy? I love. Really I do. They have great chemistry, and I don't even notice Lisa's horrid haircut when she's in scenes with Jeremy. I love how he makes her interesting, and that little spark with them. I love how even though he's with Nola (and I love Lucy Liu, but is this a dead-end character on this show or what?), he still gravitates to being Lisa's white knight.

But, he's not her white knight in the grandly romantic way he's been in the past that comes across more like he's deliberately doing the grandly romantic thing to appear grandly romantic. With Lisa, it comes across like he genuinely just wants her to be happy, and he does so in a totally Jeremy Darling way that is actually grandly romantic. I love them together.

I enjoy this show, I don't love it, and it still needs tightening, but I do enjoy watching it.

Survivor - I continue to love Sugar and Bob. I would be in heaven if when the teams merged, Sugar and Bob made an alliance. Won't happen, I know, but still, 'twould be awesome. Ah, Ace, outplayed by the pin-up model. Hah! Too bad that she was actually trusting the wrong person because at this point, Ace WAS being fair with her, but he played the snake too well to be trusted. I just hope that Sugar doesn't align herself with Krystal. Kenny, I'm fine with, but not Krystal. Oh, heck, Sugan align yourself with anyone as long as it gets you to the final three. You're too adorable and I think that you'd have a grand shot at winning the whole kit and kaboodle and that would be AWESOME!!!!!!!! I haven't liked a Survivor player this much since Ozzy! (Although, Ozzy is still first.) Sugar has surpassed Yau-man as my number two fave. I KNOW!! I just love her.

Who I no longer love? Is Matty. Screw you, Matty! Bitching all about Sugar in the challenge. Had he or Ace succeeded where Sugar failed, I would have understood his upset, but hello, they couldn't do it either. And Sugar was the one that Jeff was commenting on at the beginning was really going for it. I don't think she was giving up, I think she was trying to figure out how to get past the two because her earlier attempts weren't working. She's an itty thing, and her strategy had been the same as Matty and Ace's and it didn't work for them. So, Matty? You're on the list.

As for the other team ... man, Suzie was an IDIOT! But, luckily for her, Dan is a bigger, bumbling fool. It will be interesting to see how things fall out in the merge. Just continue to keep rocking (and don't get voted out!), Sugar!

Ugly Betty - I like Lindsay Lohan, but wasn't happy with her in the show so far, but tonight -- her last episode -- I actually felt like she fit in. Go figure. Oh well. Bottom-line, Hilda annoys, Betty and Jesse is cringe-worthy because it's totally coming across as if he thinks she's a sweet, totally un-baggable female and she's getting little flutters based on how he's just being nice to her and it's just, well, it's embarrassing. On the other hand, I'm still adoring every Betty/Daniel scene. And I do still love Wilhelmina, Amanda and Mark. So, overall, I'm happy. I do think, though, that it's time Betty loses the braces, and fixes her wardrobe a bit. Come on, show. It's time for a little change.

30 Rock - Fabulous show, funny, cute, charming, silly and goofy and, and, and there were some major Jack/Liz moments. Woohoo!!! A near-kiss!! AHA!! But the best part was when she had her hand on his face and he had to move it so that she was wasn't caressing/groping his nose. Hah. I love them together so much. I do enjoy this show.

The Office - And this one breaks my heart. Damnit, I loved Michael and Holly. Sigh, so perfect for one another. Ah well. Not the best episode, imo, but the Michael/Holly stuff was (heart-breaking) gold. The part that got me the most was Michael's: "I'm not strong; I'll go back to Jan and I HATE Jan." Oh, Michael. The Dwight/Andy stuff was amusing, but I found the Jim/Pam stuff rather a dud. Oh well. Still a good show.

Life on Mars - Sigh, such a shame about the ratings because I do really enjoy this. My only issue is that I don't think anything will ever happen with Windy, and I love her and Sam. Seriously, my favorite moment was when Windy was one of the three women Sam imagined having sex with, LOL! I'm leaning towards the belief that she's not real, which sucks because, again, I really like her and Sam. They just fit and feel so natural together. I feel like the Sam/Annie angle is forced. I think they should have foregone the bigger name (sorry, Gerrie) and gone with Tanya Fischer (the actress who plays Windy) as Annie, because she and Jason O'Mara are pure gold together. They are just so natural and wonderful. I love every moment of their scenes.

As a Who fan, I must admit, I did a little squee every time the name Rose Tyler was said, LOL! As for the story/mom herself, good job. Of course, it helped that I was familiar with the actress. Overall, good stories, good arc, good flow, good everything. I wish more people had stuck around after the premiere, sigh. I really do enjoy it.

I also watched Billie Piper's 30 Things To Do Before You're 30. Quick thoughts ... Other than Billie's adorable-factor in a lamely-written, somewhat annoying and squicky role? The only thing I got out of this was: HEE! It's the captain from "The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit." Woohoo!!!! Yeah, that's all I got. Oh, and Secret Diary of a Call Girl is not the first time that Billie made out with a girl onscreen. The difference is that it made sense for Hannah/Belle. In this, it was just part of the huh? factor of her character. Easily, my least-favorite part of hers ever so far.

And now, This is based off some of her Showtime SDoaCG promo shots which I totally love with the whole fifties-vibe to them. I heart it. Just click on the image below to take you to the 1024x768 full size.

Lastly, I was planning on doing the rewatch-review of "The Doctor Dances" this weekend, but with so much to catch up on, I just won't be able to give it my full attention, so next week. Next week. (Then no more Moffat!! Woohoo!)
