I wasn't going to do a SYTYCD write-up, but my love for Neil made it impossible not to. He is officially my favorite now. Love, love, love him!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say Neil's routine with Sara was my absolute favorite. None others came close. I admit I groaned when I saw disco and then grimaced and moaned when I saw that Dorianna was choreographing. But, my, my, my, what a pleasant, delightful surprise. From the opening shimmy by Sara to that outstanding leap by Neil it was fun, fun, fun, entertaining, well-danced and just had me grinning away. So, so, soooooooo wonderful to see him away from Lauren!!!!!!!
The rest: Sabra/Kameron were okay. And while I love Sabra to bits, I actually did see a few mistakes by her so I disagree with Mary's "perfection" comment. But I do believe that she was soaring and I do still love her ... to bits. Finally, dangit, I am so sorry over the brow-beating of poor Kameron. I thought he did fine. Maybe not the bestest, but he didn't deserve what they handed him. I stand by my belief that if they WERE trying to get Lacey/Kameron into the bottom three, it wasn't to get rid of Lacey, but to get rid of Kam.
- Dominic/Jaime. Sigh, yeah, agreed with the judges. Poor Dom, but he handled the criticism very well.
- Lauren/Pasha. Pasha was great; Lauren was good but I just don't like her. I love Pasha. He's replaced Dominic as my number two guy. (Sorry, Dom. I still love you, but a girl's heart can be fickle.)
- Lacey/Danny. First a word about the choreography: What does Heidi have to do to get some name recognition here people!!?!!!!!! The routine was good, but after last week's sex-kitten routine handed to Lacey, I'm getting a little tired of it. (Yes, I know Natalie = sex kitten last season and she was my fave, but that is kinda how she was introduced, this just seems like it's piling on Lacey and I don't think that's fair to her.) The choreography for this one was about a million times better though, and they both danced it well, but I didn't sense a connection at all. (Of course, minus the glorious Sara/Neil, I didn't think any of the new pairs had connection.) It was a hot routine and I thought they did a very good job.
Solos: I liked Neil's the best (shocker, I know!). I started thinking of something else during Sabra's. I thought Jaime's interpretation was too frenetic and didn't think the choreography fit the music (and she was first), but didn't feel the same with others. I thought Pasha's was second-best. Danny's was executed well, but seemed so fake in terms of emotion. Lauren, damn her, was good. Sara's was surprisingly very good -- girl is much better than I originally gave her credit. Dominic was good, but not outstanding. Lacey surprised me by being a tad sloppy. Kameron -- like Dominic -- was good, but not outstanding.
As for the choreography ... I liked the literal-ness of it, but thought the pause/scream was a bit much. It got better upon repetition, but not one of my fave Wade routines. Frankly, I thought the whole 'peace, send a message' was a bit eye-roll-worthy. Sorry. But hey, no Thriller hands!
End of the day for me? The fabulousness that is Neil and was Neil and Sara's performance. Once more for the road: NEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!
