Why Syrian regime is so "strong"? The Syrian regime is stronger than ever if it can afford to itself to eliminate people from its inner circle that may pose a threat to Assad’s stay in power.
According to al-Okaz (Saudi Arabia) newspaper the death of Hilal al-Assad commander of shabiha forces in Latakia and National Defense Forces hasn’t happened by chance and raised many questions.
It wasn’t for the first time when regime’s outlets have rushed to officially recognize the death of such an important figure who leads the sectarian militia forces along the Syrian coast.
Enough to remember an incident with the death of the commander of the crisis cell in June 2012 as a result of an attack by “Islamists” which got immediate recognition by the official media.
Some reliable sources pointed out that Hilal’s death might become as a result of his growing role among the followers of the Alawi community in Latakia.
This very fact could provoke the fear of the regime and forced it to set up an ambush for Hilal al-Assad to prevent him from becoming a competitor for Assad at least on the Syrian coast if regime decides to come out with presidential election this summer.
In past Hafez al-Assad just ousted from Syria to Paris his brother Rifa’at whose popularity among the army officers multiplied. But today regime seemed has changed its methods.
On the other hand, according to information spread by some activists in Latakia, Hilal might have some closed contacts with unknown foreign representatives and Ribal al-Assad. This fact could be seen by the regime as a direct threat to it’s survival in context of not buried yet the idea of establishing the interim government in Syria.
More over Russia and USA seemed prepare new round of “Geneva-2”. At least some unofficial sources don’t exclude the possibility of ongoing meeting between some Russian representatives and Syrian opposition in coming weeks with USA approval.
But one thing is certain that this rustles regime has become to eliminate itself from inside to prevent any hint on its readiness to speak about power change with any body.
This very fact must serve as an alert signal to those Syrian patriots who still serve being very close to this “dead” regime in the name of free Syria.
