Engaged

On July 22, at about 2pm, I finished reading Deathly Hallows on a beautiful green Virginia vineyard lawn.  At the same time, Devin (Uilnslcoap on the Quill), came out of the house, took my hand, and asked me to take a walk with him.  Eager to discuss the book and too elated to be suspicious, I followed him down the river walk to a little clearing in the woods.

"Here's where I finished reading," he told me.

"I'm so glad you had a perfect place," I said.

"Let's make it doubly perfect," said he, and then he was down on one knee, and in his hand there was a ring, and the answer to his question, after several sunlit days, was absolutely and irrevocably YES.

Devin and I met two years ago on the Sugar Quill boards, just after the release of HBP.  We fell in love quickly, have been together since, and are now officially the happiest people on the planet.

The picture in the avatar was taken by B Bennett, at the very spot where Devin proposed.  We are grateful* to her for being on the spot to capture the moment, to Zsenya for keeping the Sugar Quill alive long enough for us to meet there, and to my sister Maureen, who helped Devin to pull off the perfect proposal and who gave the most beautiful speech afterward - about how book seven was not an ending, but a new beginning.

I have to agree.

*edited to add: We are also eternally grateful to Jo Rowling, without whose stories we might never have known this happiness.  Thank you, Jo, for everything.
