I'm it. melissa_tlc tagged me. She seems to think I’ll fill out this meme. Ha! As if I have the time for memes! I’m extraordinarily busy here at work, drinking my coffee and surfing through LJ!
:) Yeah, I have JE, I was super excited for it when it came out. I got kind of sidetracked after a little while, life things like job interviews and publishing papers, but also it was not absorbing me quite the same way. It's really really really beautiful and I was liking the combat system, but I felt like I had to run around chatting with a million people a little too much, and I hadn't yet gotten into the characters. I'm sure KotOR got many unconscious bonus points from me for being set in the SW universe, too. Anyway, once I can stop thinking about Harry Potter for more than ten minutes at a stretch I'm sure I'll try to get back into it... :)
And God knows it's a better story than KotOR II (no closure with Atton, so uncool, wtf...)
Oh yeah, I'm right with you on Sith Lords. Did you hear about all the content for the ending that was cut from the game, but still left buried on the disc? It sounded like they were trying to make a much cooler ending, where all the influence you had with your party actually matters for something, and yes there was closure with Atton (or Handmaiden/Visas if you were a boy). Instead they slapped on some half-hearted crap. People seemed to think it was cut to make a deadline, which I found pretty heartbreaking, especially after I liked the first one so much. You can see some transcripts from deleted dialogue here.
I cut Ani off too! Same time! And I stopped watching X-files before the end too! Spooky. :D Yeah, that was definitely when AD changed abruptly - I didn't care for the new jazzy improvisation and her lyrics, which had previously been so fantastic, became kind of obvious and mediocre. It pains me to say it.
Things like that are why I never take for granted anymore that any artist I love is going to keep doing something great just because they've been great before. Which is why there's a little relief mixed in with all my happiness over HBP...
I'm so high on exclamation points right now. I need to chill! Hee!

Sorry, meant to get back to you on this earlier - I do know about that stuff, but never bothered reading it or hunting it down because... because it's just more frustrating. It was supposed to be IN THE GAME. It's obnoxious to play a game for that many hours and get some stupid Kreia summary at the end of it. I felt totally cheated.

Yeah. It's not that I actively am bitter toward Ani - at all. It's just that I lost interest, which floors me, considering that when Dilate came out, my roommate and I bought it that day and sat in a dark room and just listened to it, from beginning to end, and were suspended in a sort of angsty, perfect ecstasy. She was so great.
But I don't take it for granted either. And I hear you on HBP. Not that... I think I come across as too harsh toward OotP - I didn't hate it. I just didn't adore it. It had a huge emotional impact on me... but I was never moved to go back and reread it. It really surprised me. I'm rereading it now, and actually liking a lot of things that I had totally forgotten about. But there are certain chapters (Grawp, I'm looking at you) that are coming that I know I'm just going to want to skip and ignore. It's weird to feel that way about Harry Potter... but it's also a healthier obsession now than it once was, if that makes any sense.

It was a total WTF moment. It made me realize the odd fact that unlike for books and movies, video game critics submit their reviews without coming close to finishing the thing they're reviewing. So on a 40+ hour game, if the company front-loads the good stuff and nukes the end, no one will know until they've sold a hojillion copies. Jerks. :P
I'm not bitter towards Ani - she's the artist. But I did think she changed direction enormously, and try as I did I just couldn't follow.

Hee. I was right out of college, I think I bought that at a show with my then-girlfriend. Ani'd been playing "Untouchable Face" a while in concert already, and there was something special about hundreds of people roaring out that particular chorus in unison. :)

Yeah. The fact that Grawp took Hermione away from Ron's big triumph, such as it was, made him all the more irritating. The more it settles in with me, and the more I realize OotP was the exception rather than the new rule in terms of tone, the more I wonder why she wrote it the way she did. I tried last night to articulate something about OotP vs HBP, instead of repeating myself it's here and here.

Yes, it certainly does. Every relationship is healthier once you've explored its limits and found the edges beyond which you're no longer happy.

That's... just... evil. ARGH.

Oh ho yeah.

Well said. Very true. Odd that it's even applicable to a book series, but... this really has been a relationship. A romance, even. And I suppose it's good to take off the infatuation blinders, no matter what the situation.
