"Hey. Hey. Hey hey. Hey. What's up?" Yoko says.
From across the room, Maru looks up, blinks, then looks down again.
"Hey," Yoko goes again, and Maru gives him a mumbled "I'm fine" as if this - or anything else for that matter - has ever managed to stop Yoko.
He can hear Yoko shifting, the scuff of his shoes against the floor, the brush of his hands.
"Hey. Maru," Yoko says.
Maru swallows. "It's. Awkward." The word slips out despite his best intentions, but there's really no other way to describe the situation.
"It's not," Yoko says. "Well, it is. Right now it is. But it doesn't have to be."
Maru glances up.
"I'm... I'm kind of flattered," Yoko says, and there's that smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Then there's that little giggle bubbling up, and Maru suddenly feels some of the tension ease off his shoulders.
"One day, I will kiss you," Maru says, and he grins as the smile falls from Yoko's face. "Wait for it," he says cheerfully, giving Yoko a thumb up.
