Medusa Bathing: Art + Poem (NSFW)

Jul 23, 2013 22:13

Medusa has long been one of my favorite myths. This poem and picture were both done years ago, not at the the same time, but I'm very happy with both of them.

Medusa's Lament
Araina Richardson

I live a punishment, for something I could not help
Born beautiful, rivaling the goddesses
Cursed, alone, and more than a little afraid
I hide from my own reflection

What changes have been wrought, I can only guess
I dare not find out, lest I turn myself to stone
My hair slithers like snakes; I have heard them hiss
And with rumors of my ugliness I hide myself away

I know this world will destroy me; even now it tries
My solitude will not be a protection from heroes
Who in time will remain only as legends
The ones who slew the fabulous monsters

The monsters, such as myself
Simply misunderstood, will cease to exist
Let them come, I am tired of hiding
From those who would wear the mask of Hero

I am Medusa and
I am ready to die…

poetry, art!
