Odyssey
Odyssey was awesome!
The bad: Missing 3 hours of the final day due to heatstroke. I didn't feel so bad, and managed to avoid the worst symptoms by sitting in a breezy tent with salty-sugary water. However, as my character was due some wonderful high-jinks, plot and a quest, I didn't feel that it would have been sensible to be IC :( As I still felt crap today, I'm glad I didn't overdo it. Still narked about missing cool stuff though.
Right - now on with the good!
Saturday evening was the best RP experience I think I have ever had. There was political bitching, our Prince nearly exploding (with rage), priests sorting things out in the best way, people disagreeing with said 'best way' (shock! horror!) and I picked up my first enemy by calling one of the Immortals the rudest Persian I had met and spitting at his feet in front of nearly all the Shahs...
I expected the rest of the evening to be spent planning how the priests could appease the Shahs, how the Blades could not end up being hated by the rest of the Persians, and my own personal problem of not being challenged by the Immortal I'd insulted.
Of course, being Persia, all these problems were more or less sorted out by the Blades entertaining around 50 people over the course of the evening. There were people from each of the nations except Rome (unless I missed them), plus some of the Minoans. A whole warband from Greece came to enjoy our hospitality as we'd fought them twice that day. The people of the Blades who provided the drinks and managed to get enough drinking vessels were awesome (and I still don't know everyone's names).
My personal problem was sorted out with some sacrificing and discussions, and only a tiny bit of grovelling to people. Huzzah!
The Arena was awesome. I lost my voice almost completely by the end of the event, and my bodhran saw much use. I was complimented on my 'enthusiastic drumming'. At least I will take it as a compliment. I do like spectating loudly; I might have to get to more away games next football season.
The sad thing about the event is that it has made me realise that the Maelstrom game is not for me. I've been waiting for the festival LARP bug to kick in, and thought it wouldn't, but now it has - just not for 'strom. Oh well, my bank balance will appreciate it.
