Dressed To Kill. I will admit that I've never shot a gun before, so this is pretty much whatever worked in my brain and what I could find on google. Thanks as always to my wonderful beta

Laura never liked guns. Losing her family to a madman with a gun made her dislike them even more, but her practical side told her she needed to be capable of defending herself. She wouldn’t be caught unaware again. This was her fight and she couldn’t leave everything to Marshal Bill.
Bill handled the guns with care. She wondered how many men he’d killed in his career. How many more would meet their death at the end of his gun?
“This is a colt .45. It can kill with one shot.”
Laura flinched wondering if this kind of gun had killed her family. Bill sensed her trepidation. He holstered the weapon. He moved behind her and wrapped his arms around her firmly. She relaxed against his solid frame.
He took it out again and held it in front of them. He was unsure how she would react when he pulled the trigger. It may take her right back to that awful day.
“We can wait," Bill whispered in her ear.
Laura placed her hands on his. “Do it.”
Bill pulled the hammer back and squeezed the trigger. The sound was deafening and Laura pushed back against him. The mere contact gave her reassurance and confidence.
They stood still for a moment and then Laura took the gun from him. She took a deep breath and steadied herself.
Bill pressed himself against her for support. “That’s it. Hold it steady. Aim at your target.” His hot breath tickled her ear and his presence cleared her mind. “Pull the hammer back. Now pull…”
She fired and let out the breath she was holding.
“Good job.”
With every shot Laura got better, closer to the target and the effect of the recoil lessened with every shot.
For her family, she could do this.
