Sweetness and Foam. Many thanks to
sln1 for her beta and great suggestions.
The café was bustling when Laura showed up that evening. She was wearing her new dress hoping Bill would like it. She hadn’t expected such a crowd. There was an definite buzz in the air.
She was still buzzing from the kiss she and Bill had shared earlier.
Hmmmm.
Coffee never tasted so good.
They’d continued working and then he shooed her out of the place saying ‘come back later’.
What was he up to?
Tonight, people were moving in every direction. Bill was in his usual spot making lattes. He was comfortably dressed, flecks of foam on his shirt and bare arms. Laura had an idea how to remedy that problem.
He looked up at her and grinned. Her heart tightened when he smiled so sincerely, it made her forget everything else. She pushed away any feelings of guilt.
Bill left the drinks to his staff. As he made his way over to her, his eyes wandered downward appreciatively.
“That’s a nice colour on you.” He noted.
“Thank you.” She blushed.
“Didn’t you quit earlier, Miss Roslin?” He teased.
“Oh stop.” She giggled and squeezed his bare arm. “What’s going on? It seems alive in here tonight.”
He bent toward her and whispered low in her ear, “I have a surprise for you.” His blue eyes were twinkling like she’d never seen.
“What is it Bill? Tell me.” She implored.
He handed her a paper.
“Edward Prima book signing tonight”
Laura gasped. “Oh Bill, how wonderful.”
She hugged him. He felt warm and solid against her.
She pulled back and suddenly looked terrified.
“What is it?” Bill asked.
“I’ve never gotten around to reading ‘Dark Day’.”
He chuckled. “Don’t worry. Stick by me and I’ll see you through.”
The look in his eyes made her believe it was true.
