A/N: I've always wanted this little scene, or something like it at the end of "33". Here is my attempt at it.

Laura changed the number on the whiteboard. The stress and strain of the day flooded out of her. She heard a noise behind her and thought Billy had returned, but no, it was Commander Adama.

“Good news?” He looked at the board and tried to judge her emotional state.

“Yes, a baby... not that it makes up for all the losses, but even one life is precious. I’ll take what I can get today.” She smiled at him, tired as she was. She was surprised how relieved she felt to see him.

“That’s nice.” His voice was huskier than usual.

“Is there something you needed or that I need to do?” Laura questioned.

“No. I just came over to...” He stopped.

See how you are.

Check on you.

He wasn’t sure how to finish and not insult her; that wasn’t his intention. Laura raised an eyebrow at him. “I’m still here, as you can see and in one piece.”

Bill managed a smile and let out a sigh as he slumped into a chair. He looked different. Not the polished, clean cut soldier she’d seen for the last few weeks. He was rumpled and exhausted, not to mention the stubble on his usually carefully shaven face. He looked like he could make himself comfortable and fall asleep in the chair.

He noticed her checking him over and touched his cheek. “I guess I should have cleaned up a little, before I came over here.”

“I think we all could use some sleep and a good clean up.” Laura ran her hand through her own hair.

He got up to leave, satisfied with whatever he wanted or needed to see.

“Good night, Madame President.”

She’d earned that title today.

“Good night, Commander.”

Not to mention, a little of his respect.
