Had his own love life been less dismal, he might have been more enthusiastic about this dinner invitation. As discreet as they were, with them the slightest touch or most fleeting glance communicated a richness of emotion the most lavish display of affection from anyone else would struggle to equal and witnessing it made him feel like a voyeur.
He wasn’t so churlish as to actually begrudge them this intimacy but it was a painful reminder of personal mistakes he had no desire to confront again,
Wearily thrusting his failures aside, Lee mustered a smile and knocked on the hatch.
