South America!!

So the big news from me is that I have booked my tickets to South America! I leave on May 12th from Auckland, and fly back to Auckland 6 months later. I am flying in to Buenos Aires, and then the tentative plan is to make my way round parts of the continent, through Argentina, chile, Peru, ecuador, Bolivia and Brazil before making a circle back to Buenos Aires in time for my flight.

I intend to be travelling on the cheap and will be doing significant amounts of volunteering and couchsurfing, but it still won't be cheap. I am hoping to do a language course when I get there, I want to walk the Inca Trail up to Machu Picchu (must get waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay fitter than I am)and some other cool stuff like seeing Iguazu falls, the Amazon and the salt lakes.

I am so excited, and have been obsessively reading up on every aspect that I can think of about it since I paid for my tickets.

I am going on my own. Anyone that has been and has tips for me, it would be greatly appreciated. particularly on the Inca Trail, as that books up so quickly I have to get on to that pretty soon.

Also have to get vaccinations pretty soon too, and they will cost a whole whack of money.

Planning this trip has made me feel so alive again. I have been back in Christchurch a little under 2 years, and while I have had little trips, I haven't done anything this exciting for ages....actually I've NEVER done something this exciting. My 2 year itch seems to be rearing it's ugly head though. Haven't stayed in a city longer than 2 years as an adult since I first trekked across the ditch to Melbourne for my two year stint there. Followed by 2 years back in Christchurch finishing my degree, then two years in Europe, this last two years has actually made me like Christchurch again. But I need to travel. I just have to. I don't think I'll ever stop.

But it's not for long this time. At this stage anywayy.
