Update to HRT or not to HRT

I finally got to the gynecologist after canceling the first appointment (it was the week of my mother's first "episode"). The GYN put me on a low dose birth control pill. I have a follow-up appointment (actually, my yearly) in a month and then we'll see where we are. I'm not thrilled -- I gained weight on this same pill about 20 years ago, and I ( Read more... )

I suspect I'm tottering on the edge of menopause too. I'd been on a progesterone only pill for quite a few years - I didn't have periods at all unless I missed taking a pill - it was fantastic. :) The last time I missed one, I just stopped taking them to see what was going on down there. :) I've had two rather pathetic periods since then but nothing at all since the beginning of Jan.

I don't think I lost weight when I stopped - gained if anything, but I'd had shoulder surgery around the same time and couldn't exercise as much either.

What I've been doing - just in case - is introducing more soya into my diet. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-33079/Can-soya-beat-heart-disease-menopause.html

I think I'm having the odd hot flush - but nothing that makes me feel the need to put my head in the freezer. Maybe it's the soya? Maybe it's just me believing the soya is helping? Maybe I'm not going to have much of a problem with menopause? Maybe I'm not actually menopausal yet? :\ I am planning to have a chat with a GYN in the near future.

Good luck with the pill. :)

Thanks -- and yes, the soy does seem to help some people. Black cohosh is another natural option, but I couldn't take it.
