SPRING BREAK CATARACT CANYON TRIP RUNDOWN!

Mar 26, 2007 12:24

Well, I'm back.

Instead of the numbers, this time I'm going to run down a few aspects of the trip as...

Fun Facts!

Fun Fact: In Moab I bought 2 50-cent-novel westerns at a thrift store, from 1939 and 1953, respectively.  I read them both during the week and now have added phrases like "that herd will be scattered from hell to breakfast" and "I woke up feeling nine years older than God" and "I should've smelled the nigger in the woodpile right then" to my lexicon.

Fun Fact: At the beginning of the trip, Anya and I went backpacking for a couple days in Utah.  Then we waited at the take-out for the rafting trip, where we would meet up with Ben and carpool.  Ben was 8 hours late.  Why?  He noticed that his guitar was stolen from the back of his truck.  This caused him to pull over to the side of the road, drink a growler full of beer, throw it up, and pass out for a few hours.  The next day we learned that Ben had just left his guitar at Zak's house in Glenwood Springs when he visited the day before.

Fun Fact: We met an old hippie man who lived on the river who had a long white beard and claimed he was the modern-day Galileo.  He says he's discovered that body-cells need to be almost constantly moved in their relation to the earth's magnetic waves.  Because of this, he sleeps between elecromagnets that flip every 8 minutes.

Fun Fact: We picked up a stray dog and named him Skip-Marco Meal.  I added the meal part, because he looked delicious.  He now lives with a crazy animal-lady down the street from Zak's house in Glenwood Springs.

Fun Fact: Big rapids!

Okay, enough of that nonsense.  The following are pictures of the trip.  These ones are different, because there is rain and rapids and cataract canyon is beautiful.

arrr... the high seas.

Meet our favorite bumper sticker.  I bought it from a gas station sticker-machine a few trips back, stuck it on Zak's car, and ever since then the world has been a brighter, more joyful place.

...and so, the journey begins.

First half of break was big canyon walls and blue skies...

Food was eaten, wine was drunken, banjo was played (eddie).

...and then it was time to get to business.

hello there, handsome young fellow!

Zak hocking mad nar in his kayak.

Ben also tripping sicky fly in his kayak, with hand paddles.

VICIOUS RAPID ACTION! (eddie-with-extreme-noseplugs, anya, zak)

...and then things got stormy.

and everything was myyyystiiiiiicaaaaaal.

and then we entered the gates of Mordor.

ah, rain.

We drove home, champions.

and now, onward to sociology!
