How to banish a bad mood with a one simple motion

Never a lip is curved with pain
That can't be kissed into smile again.

Sometimes, when you're already in bad mood, the smallest things can annoy the hell out of you. That's exactly how Matsumoto Jun was feeling at the moment. His whole day, no, the whole WEEK had been a total chaos and when he finally got back home on that fatetul saturday evening, all he could think of was a hot bath, quick dinner and a good night's sleep. But just like everything else lately, this wasn't going according to his plans either.

Just as he was getting ready for bath, his cellphone rang. And that annoying, beeping sound was the last straw for his already streched nerves. He didn't even bother to check the caller ID as he picked up the stupid, loud gadget and threw it against the wall. As it made a satisfying cracking noise, a crooked smile spread on the idol's face. Sure, he would regret his actions later, but for now it just made him feel a little bit better.

The next half an hour went by at peace. Jun had his bath, which lifted his mood some more and relaxed him enough so that when the doorbell rang, he actually decided to answer it. The polite smile he had forced on his lips melt away as soon as he saw the man behind the door.

”Oh hi, Shun. Why are you here?” Jun knew he had been a bit rude but that his best friend wouldn't mind.

”Uhm, we were supposed to go clubbing tonight. Don't you remember?” The other man asked, looking puzzled.

No, Jun hadn't remembered it until now.

”Damn, I'm so sorry. I completely forgot! There's been so much going on lately and...” He trailed off, embarrassed by the fact that he'd forgotten their plans.

Shun gave him a symphatetic look. ”It's okay. I wasn't really feeling like going either.” He smiled. ”So how about this: we'll go clubbing some other time and tonight we can just hang in here?”

”Sure.” Jun smiled weakly as he stepped aside to let the other man in. ”Though I might not be the best possible company at the moment.”

”I can see that.” Shun said as got into the apartment and saw the shattered cellphone on the floor. ”So that's why you didn't pick up when I tried to call you.” A small smirk crept onto his lips.

”Oh, so it was you... I'm so sorry, I just...” Jun begun but was interrupted.

”Stop apologizing all the time. Let's just sit down and you can tell me what has happened that turned my lovely best friend into a pms-ing bitch.” Shun said as he sat on the living room couch.

”Hmph. Very funny.” Jun said but sat next to the taller man anyway. Something about the presence of the other immediately soothed his abused nerves. The anger he had felt was long gone and dissolved into a dull sadness. Shun apparently noticed the quick change in his mood, because he suddenly leaned closer with a concerned look on his face.

”Seriously now, tell me what's bothering you.”

Jun sighed. ”I don't wanna bother you with my relationship problems.”

”So it's love that's got you all messed up, eh? I thought you were seeing someone.”

”Well not anymore. We... broke up.”

”And now you're all heartbroken? Aww, poor thing. Look, sometimes it helps to talk about these things.” Shun said as he moved another few inches closer. He slowly wrapped his arm around the shorter man's shoulders. ”You know you can trust me.”

That was all it took. Though Jun was a very private person, sometimes he too needed to pour his heart out. And this was one of those moments. He told Shun everything about how his relationship had gone wrong from the beginning, how he still had tried to hold on even though he had known it would end up with tears, and how he had thought that maybe this one would be the love of his life. Before he even knew, he was crying against Shun's shoulder. The taller man just held him close and listened to his wailing.

When the tears had dryed out, Jun felt a lot better. He went to bathroom to wash his face and when he came back he noticed Shun had helped himself with a can of beer from the fridge. Jun sat back next to his friend and they spent a few moments in comfortable silence, the only sound being Shun's occasional sips of his beer.

”Can I ask you something?” Shun suddenly said.

”Hmm? Sure.”

”Are you feeling insecure about yourself?”

”Eh? Why?” Jun raised an eyebrow to the other one's strange question.

”'Cos everytime I get dumped I feel like that.”

”Well... I quess. A little bit.” Jun thougth this conversation was going to a strange direction. Maybe he shouldn't have cried in front of the other man. Well, more like bawl like a girl against his shoulder. He wasn't really in the mood for dwelling on his emotions any more than this.

”I think you shouldn't.” Shun interrupted his musings. ”'Cos I'd totally do ya.”

And with those words, he leaned in and captured Jun's lips in a gentle kiss.

Jun's heart skipped a beat. Two beats. Three beats. His head was spinning and his body was totally frozen. Being kissed by your best friend doesn't really happen everyday, so he had no idea how to react. It felt nice though. Really nice. As Shun's hand found it's way behind Jun's neck his eyes slowly fluttered shut. He knew this was wrong in so many levels, but something held him from pulling away. Maybe it was just the shock. Or maybe it was that little rejected part of his consciousness that had always found his friend attractive.

When Shun pulled away, Jun still felt the lingering taste of beer in his mouth. He opened his eyes slowly, a bit afraid to meet the sight before him. Shun was still close. Very, very close.  Their eyes met and for a moment Jun felt something he'd never felt before. This strange warm feeling in his chest. Then the macigal moment was broken when Shun suddenly stood up.

”Um, well... I think I should get going. See ya!” He said and went to put on his shoes. But when he reached for the door, Jun was suddenly behind him. He spun the taller man around and tiptoed a bit to press their lips together again. It was a quick kiss, more like a soft caress of lips.

”Yeah, see you around.” Jun said, smiling shyly as he pulled away. ”Thanks for cheering me up.”

”Sure, anytime.” Shun winked and stepped out of the door.

For the rest of the evening Jun found himself grinning like an idiot. Maybe this week wasn't so bad afterall.
