Only a few weeks before my 28th birthday, I'm making my first (and hopefully only) career switch! A few weeks ago, I was offered a job in the television production profession, a move I had been aiming to do since the beginning of 2007, and I graciously accepted. A week ago, I gave two weeks notice at my night-shift county government job at the crazy house. It was time to leave! The work was starting to have an emotional effect on me, and in the 2+ years that I worked there, I saw the direction that the place was moving. Essentially, it was becoming more and more like a hospital with all the minuses but without the benefits of a 24-hour medical facility. If the future of the place where you work looks bleak, get out quickly...like if a fat lady in the room had just farted.

Anyway, that's the past. Mental health wasn't the right career path for me. I realized that it just didn't fit my personality. My Masters will always be on my wall, but TV and video production is my passion and my future. I accepted a job with Montgomery County, Maryland's public access station. I'll be working closely with the volunteer producers and crew members and coordinating with them to ensure they can shoot their shows. I'll also be serving as a crew member on various productions getting valuable production experience while on the clock (salaried with benefits!!). As time goes by and I get comfortable with the job, I have the option to begin working on some of my own shows to produce. Plus, this station offers courses to give county residents the opportunity to learn all the skills needed to work in TV. As an employee, I'll be able to take any class for free which is a way to keep gaining skills and rapidly build up my resume (and my book of contacts) while getting paid!!! This deal was just too good to pass up!!!

Starting January 22, I will be a television production professional!
