Moving house again (this month's adventures)

Hopefully it won't turn out quite as awful experience as last time. Gah.

Tighter planning is going to be part of the trick, and definitely not moving single-rucksack-by-single-rucksack by train this time (!)

I'm moving to a lovely, reasonably-recently-renovated, two-level apartment with high ceilings and a big big big sun-facing terrace, in a nearby city about 10km from where I'm living now. It's decadently expansive, with the entertaining areas alone about as large as my current apartment (which I feel is a bit small, but is considered generous in local terms, especially as I selfishly live by myself).

It's going to be a good move for me: the apartment is about 200m from the central square, a few houses away from the river, in a pretty chilled neighbourhood considering how close by everything it is. There are loads of good restaurants, bars, live music venues and even better, a great cluster of good friends - old and new - within walking distance.

And the bath is a superduper extra long number. (Long story, but I've got a sitting bath in my current apartment's shower alcove so this is an awesome development!)

Downsides: my brilliant and very convincing Burgundy dealer ("your first glass is free") is based there, which might not be great for the bank balance. I won't have secure bike parking. There isn't a cellar which I need if I'm going to make cheese again (might be a good brake on buying more wine tho). Getting to the airport by public transport will take longer (but it's via direct express bus which is cool), and the city's not connected to the night transport network during the week with the last trains at about 01:30 am, and being just a bit too far to bike home on rainy nights out in civilisation: ah well EUR35 is doable every so often for a taxi.

This should work out pretty well for house guests in comparison to some of the places I've lived in. Do come and visit!
