Tiiiiiiimmmmmotheeee ...

Oh GOD! *combusts*

Sorry, just had to get that out.

And something else to note: Tim Buckley says "Don't ever repeat yourself" and he never does musically and I feel slightly guilty every time I see that instruction on my current wallpaper because I do repeat myself with themes and imagery and character types across stories/novels. Like shaula82 quite rightly pointed out that I tend to have absent parents in my novels. Something I'm uneasily conscious of and had already promised myself before she said that the next novel was going to feature two very present parents. Just to prove to myself that I can write that.

But Timothy Charles Buckley III also uses make love like a skinned cat crawling across the highway twice across two albums. *nods*

That makes me feel a little less guilty.

Ain't nothing wrong with having themes. You write towards what moves you the most so of course there are going to be certain things that will persist in moving you harder than others. Write what's true. Fuck the instructions. And, as a reader, I rather like when I can detect themes across the various works of my favourite authors.

But there's a line. Let's not do the Liz Carlyle thing of 'breath ratcheting' and 'hair scrubbing across pillows'. Watch it, girlie, with your use of repetitive imagery. Be ruthless when it comes to the edit. Root out all the redundancy.

But oh, Timothy. I take you off my iPod and I don't listen to you for weeks and nothing seems to satisfy me in those weeks, then I come back to you and you lift me up to the places I love to be and I'm overcome one more glorious time by the love of you and your sound. *sighs, lays head on your knee*

Okay, to the writing.
