a bible in the drawer

Can I just say?

Michael Chabon is obscene.

Obscenely prolific! Gah!

Today I walked into Kino and got completely freaked by the new layout. When I got my bearings, it was actually quite excellent and logical, this reorganisation. And I especially liked that I no longer have to get up on the stepstool to look at the romance novels. Even if they didn't have the new Elizabeth Hoyt. *pouts*

On my way out, I catch sight of the new rather goffic paperback edition of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and whimper a little when I discover that Gaiman's only written an introduction. So yeah, totally without shame, I stood there and read it. Cos I already own two copies of that novel, I totally cannot justify buying a third, however much I love every sentence of the seven hundred and whatever pages. *lol*

And literally, as I put it back and step away, I catch sight of that name. That Name. I thought I was hallucinating for a second! Cos it only feels like last year that both Maps And Legends and Gentlemen Of The Road came out. And see, this is why I adore Chabon so much. It's like he writes as naturally as he breathes, there's no pretension about it. He thinks, therefore he writes. He writes, therefore he publishes. And the sheer rapidity of these books just boggles the mind, man.

Mind you, the fact that it's a memoir is all the more interesting in light of Ayelet's (not so) recent media controversy. And I like the structure already, the "interlinked series of essays". Never mind that the theme itself has got me all quietly excited. I can't wait to read what he has to say, knowing what little I already know of his life.

Manhood For Amateurs.

I was very good, though. I actually Walked Away from a new Michael Chabon book. Ya, really. Maybe next week.

Cos I finally got to pick up my Frankenstein and it's actually bigger and more beautiful than I'd thought. All lovely and sleek and sort of pallid but vivid at the same time. *shivers happily*

And best of all, I've racked up so much credit at Dymocks that I didn't have to pay anything at all! Classic books in hand for nothing? There could be nothing lovelier.

And apparently I'm even more Indian than I thought. *snort*

gaiman, raven king, books, chabon
