Dear god, I love how kinky Jennifer Ashley is.
Her books, I mean. Heh.
Finished The Mad, Bad Duke a couple of hours ago cos I was home again today, but this time not by choice. No matter. Got to have a nice lazy morning and read said book.
I did skim a fair bit because the politics and intrigue didn't interest me in the least. I think I may be coming to the end of my Regency romance phase cos my attention just doesn't stay on the page. Having said all of that, the sex was pretty bloody awesome. I mean, really awesome. Almost to the degree I'd write.
I did wish, though, that I had known the theme before I began. Cos when it was finally made explicit that this was a Beauty and the Beast fairytale, it was so late in the narrative that I felt a distinct kick of regret and wished I could go back to the beginning and read it consciously in that conceit. Also kinda made me wish I had bought two copies of Lord Of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase, one for the lending and one for the keeping, just like I have with Jonathan Strange And Mr Norrell but for entirely different reasons.
Mind you, the bestiality was totally pushing in on the boundaries. I kept hoping she would actually write it but knew that was impossible. As it was, she went as far as she could. Man, I bet you there's a deleted scene somewhere on her computer. And it was my favourite animal, too. *squee* Hell, I did actually start a story years ago in the very same concept using the very same animal. *sigh* I wish I had continued it.
Hmmm. I wonder if paranormal romance is just a way of making bestiality fiction palatable to the general public. The shapeshifting stuff, I mean. Hmmm.
*wanders off*
