All right, much better now! I think I just needed to move beyond that scene. Read a whole chunk of the novel this morning, being the scenes before to see if it fits in. And yeah, it actually kinda does, it moves the narrative forward. Actually, it moves our insight into Arushka forward because this is what I realised: it's the first time we see her break down. *nods* No wonder I was so freaked. And actually the second version holds her back so I tweaked it to reflect the anguish from the first version and yeah, if it needs tweaking on further re-reads, that's cool. All about the process.

Also I finally accepted that there are no more scenes I can come up with for this stage of her education. And really there's been a lot already. I don't actually need any more cos there's no more major information to be imparted. So went back and worked in a few smaller bits of information here and there, and wrote a brief scene to wrap up this stage which gave me the opportunity to work in a fable about phoenixes, yay! Always a good thing, phoenixes. Hee. Not to mention a hint of lesbianism. Double yay.

Only I suspect I may have plagiarised Redhead Dude's opening chapter. Might ask him to email it to me so I can check. Ouchafuck. It feels way too familiar even though it seemed necessary. But I could change it, I suppose, if needs be. Maybe he didn't use brooches. *scowls*

But onto the next stage, yayness! Oh I am so looking forward to this research reading, ever since I began the book ages ago and then realised it had to be put back. What I read was so interesting and soooo relevant and totally full of narrative possibility. Back to the Mitchell Room next Monday! *jiggles happily*

Now I need to go and buy a bulb.
