the curtain rises

Eeeyyaarrrrgghhhhh!!!

Today completed seven days of fucking hideously short work hours. Dull acceptance. One bright but slightly aggravating spot was discovering the Indian Film Festival has finally been announced. Discovered just in bloody time too.

*reads through program*

Man, it is so lame that I've either seen most of these films or know exactly where I can get all of them. Prolly tonight, too. *sigh* Although omigod Akshaye's in Gandhi, My Father and he's coming! Ooh! Four Saif films in the festival, all of which I've seen and mostly all of which I own. *sigh* Maybe next year.

So I'm trudging back home, thinking idly of Dan as I open the front door. As I do. Check my mail. And I swear to god I knew what it was before I even got the whole damned thing out of the maibox.

Sydney Theatre Company 2008 Season brochure!

And omg Daniel Keene, Barrie Kosky and and and and and AND ... TOM STOPPARD!! *shrieks head off* I only noticed last week that Rock 'N Roll will be coming next year to Melbourne so I crossed my fingers that some bright soul would do it in Sydney too. And it's the Sydney Theatre Company! *yells and shakes laptop* Well, actually no, technically it's the Melbourne Theatre Company doing it here. While the Sydney Theatre Company does Season At Sarsaparilla there? Curious.

Dude. I had so totally refused to get excited about Blanchett/Upton taking over. Wanted to see the program first. As it turns out, Robyn Nevin's planned 2008 with them. And oh.my.fucking.god. It looks incredible, totally intimidating mix of contemporary and classic.

I kinda want to see everything. But I won't. This year I wanted to see four and tacked on a fifth. Next year I want to see nine. Not including an Education one and the Kosky two-parter War Of The Roses cycle. Holyfuckingmotheroffuckinggod, I can't believe they're going to distill eight historical Shakespearean plays down into two nights. *splutters* Kinda hummed and haahed about it until I realised War Of The Roses includes Richard III and oh yeah, I'm there. Bloody hell.

Is Toby Schmitz the guy from The Cooks? He is, isn't he? Yep. Awesome. He's in Rabbit. Sounds fascinating.

The Sydney Actors Company seems to have shrunk. Martin's gone too. Marta's definitely back. Two new boys, Ewen Leslie and Steve Le Marquand. I guess Luke Mullins isn't part of the Company after all. I kinda hoped that cos he's in Vienna Woods he might have signed on. Pity. Woulda been really nice to see a whole year's worth of plays featuring him. But Emily's not gone. And yay, all the other familiar faces. And Pamela's going to direct! *squee*

Eleven, not twelve. Huh. Curious.

And what happened to Hugh Jackman? Maybe it fell through. Or maybe it was only ever a rumour.

But ZOMG AN AFTERNOON WITH TOM STOPPARD!! *faints*

*sigh* A lot of money. But it will so be worth it. sheba_finesse, you totally must call up the STC to get your free brochure. The website doesn't seem to feature a link yet or I'd totally be linking all over the place. Gah. So exciting!

And I solemnly declare and affirm that I will not bemoan the lack of one Spielman, Daniel upon my return from each play. Really. Okay, maybe.

Correction: STC 2008's gone live. W000tt!
