I know this might sound silly but I ordered a couple of books from Amazon and I am so excited!
I have heard about the DASH diet in nursing school and never paid much attention to it... oh denial. Any how since the normal standards for Blood Pressure has changed I am at risk for becoming pre-hypertensive and I see every day what that does to you in the long run.
Also Russell has been really anxious about heart disease since the passing of his Mother.
So seeing that everyone is need of living a healthier life style why not give it a try. I really like this book because it was developed by the US National Institute of Health and used by many in the medical field.
Russ and I are also hitting the gym several times a week. I found this great article in SHAPE magazine. It is a 6 week endurance building plan that mixes cardio and strength training every other day for five days. Saturday has become our dance night but there is not any new dance classes available and because it is nice to have some down time.
I am trying to encourage Russell to start a journal where he can record his weight loss and eating habits. I know sometimes it is hard to see why weight is hard to lose but when you take a closer look at your eating habits you see where you can make adjustments.
It's going to be tough getting the routine down but I think it's one of those things you just have to do. I notice if we slack off one day it ruins the week, so it's a lot better to just keep it up.
I am also reading another book by Dr. Oz Garcia about overall health improvement.
This is something that I think both of us are really ready to take this seriously and now we have the resources and we have to make time.
