Dreams of Fire

I've been remembering a lot of dreams, lately, since I've been sick. Last night's dream was more interesting than most.

A group of family and friends went vacationing in a historic spot, spending the night in the nearby cabins. Not used to holding events for such a larger group, the caretaker asked for my assistance in event planning while we were there... I soon learned, however, of another motive.

She had a demon that she kept in the proximity, one that occasionally needed to feed on young female blood. She did not attempt to hide it. There was too much preparation required for the feeding to hide. Instead, she told me of the creature's hunger, that it would not allow us to escape. If I did not allow myself to be taken, it would consume us all.

Flashbacks came to me of a fire that had happened when I was younger. My family had almost been killed. I would not risk them. I agreed.

The caretaker smiled, "I knew that I chose the right person. You are a girl of honor." It may have been a compliment, but one I didn't think I wanted.

After that, I came to the caretaker's place regularly. Apparently part of the process was to write my life down in a journal, give the demon a taste of me before it would eat. Perhaps this was to prevent it from confusing me with the rest of the guests. Certainly the caretaker didn't want to be consumed. I also got to write my emotions about the days to come. I was afraid, but also resigned. In the meantime, I tried to think of ways to get my family to flee the place and somehow convince them not to take me. I didn't want to leave anything to chance. I did try to get them to leave under the impression that I would also be coming (thinking to ditch at the last second. If I left, we might all get hurt in the process). Unfortunately, they would not take me seriously. Who could really blame them?

Things, however, did not go to plan. The demon got hungry... it had been too long... and what I did not know... was that it devoured by means of fire. The fire I had witnessed as a child had been caused by an uncontrolled me. I feared fire, but I was also born of it. I could not be devoured. That's when things fell to pieces.

All the buildings got attacked, all the people. I tried to save them... then I woke up.
