(no subject)
So I had a sitdown with Kitsune and Neko-sensei about this whole trip thing, and they were explaining about how living on an outer island they get paid more as teachers and the islanders think it's their responsibility to be at school all the time and not actually spend the money they earn going on vacation of all things, yadda yadda yadda (even though those islanders aren't here to see all the teachers working past 7pm every night), and it was all understanding and good and I agreed with them that it's better to be discreet about the trip if we can.
But then I told them about the JET whole was abroad during the earthquake last year and had to be emergency rescued, and how it was my responsibility to tell my employers where I'm going.
And they were like, "Well, crap."
But thankfully it looks like they aren't going to be pushing me into lying to important people anymore. I suspect that the new plan is to just let the chips fall where they may, which sucks for how they feel about their reputations around the island but I personally couldn't give a crap since I wouldn't understand bad shit people were saying about me anyway! Yosh-a!
Also, apparently the number of "volunteer" activities that the teachers have to do is unusually high on this island. Thank god, because I was going crazy.
In other news, last night while I was hanging out at home I heard a familiar voice. And it was kyouikuchou! Delivering a present from Shoshun-sensei. But still! This was the first time he's come to my house to give me a present himself, probably because Yoseda-san has abandoned me for Tokyo. But it was awesome, and, as it's been recently, I wasn't petrified by awe or terror and had a brief excited conversation with him. But yeah, that brought a delighted smile to my face to the rest of the evening.
