I've had such fun researching Asheville, but in doing so, I think that it may not exactly be the right place for me! (That's just dandy)
A number of people from this journal and from the
north_carolina community suggested a few other places. Two names popped up more than once -
Carrboro and
Boone. Interestingly enough, Boone has a climate that seems very similar to here - definitely not something that I'm interested in, especially since the reason I want to get away from here (besides the throngs of hicks) is the freezing cold weather and long winters.
Carrboro, on the other hand...
It's right near
Chapel Hill and isn't too terribly far from the beach (a few hours, which is better than the full day's drive that would be required if I had a beach craving here. You know, some people who live here have never been to the ocean???????????? It's mind-boggling!).
Any thoughts on Carrboro, folks? It sounds wicked cool, even if it's small. At least it's a small town with a groovy population and a university nearby! And apparently I would be just fine without a car :)
