Running 22.2 miles and walking the remainder

May 29, 2005 21:14

Ran my first marathon today, up in burlington, VT. Sweetie sacrificed sleep and her saturday night to ride up the four hours with me, so that I wouldn't have to drive myself home today. I finished with a time of approx. 4 hours two minutes. Wanted to finish, and I did that, so I'm pleased. My secret desire, fantasy really, was to qualify for Boston.
Obviously will need to train more for that. I ran a 1:40 half-way split, I think. But my body gave out in the final six miles, during which I was passed by at least a thousand people, as I hobbled/walked for 4.5 of the last 6 miles. I finished with a run of a mile through sometimes excruciating pain. Anyway, could barely walk afterward, and now I'm dreading waking tomorrow, unsure whether I'll have the ability to get out of bed at all.

Peace be with you.

I endorse the Vermont City Marathon, great people running, cheering, and what a beautiful city.
