Ah I love these.

How do you do that focusing thing I seem to be able to only focus on what is closer

hrm, on slrs you can choose which point you want to focus on.. what camera are you using?

I'm using a Lumix. You mean you can just choose what to focus on without holding the button down and shifting?

my camera has points like there and so you can either lock the autofocus and then focus on either the object/something the same distance away and it'll just be focused on that. or you can let the camera decide for you.

or you can just open up your aperture really big, that's how you get the narrow depth of field. if your aperture is closed down, the less blur the background becomes

Hmm okay I'll try your second suggestion. I'm sure there's a way the Lumix does the first thing too just that I haven't figured it out (such sloth!).
