Ahhh, this is my first entry!
I apologize if I do anything wrong, because this is my first tutorial also ):
This tutorial was made using Ps CS4
DON'T WORRY THERE'S A PSD!
ANYWAYS I'm gonna teach you guys this neat effect:
First take your image and crop it down to whatever size pleases you.
the image i'm using is this one of brendon urie (:
I took the lasso tool and carefully traced around him because I didn't want anyone else to show in the background. This step is optional. I prefer the background white though.
If your background is already white then you don't need to do this.
Once you have your selection then back click it and click select inverse. Then press clear, and voila the background is gone!
Your image should look something like this:
Make a new layer and fill it with white. Place it on top of your image.
Now duplicate your image and desaturate it ( ctrl shift u )and place it on the top of the white layer with an opacity of 65%
It depends on how dark your image is, if your image is very light then you can leave the opacity to 100%.
Hide the coloured image because we don't need it right now.
Now duplicate the black and white one and set it at soft light 100%.
Duplicate it again but set it at screen 58%.
Your image should look something like this:
Now it's time to pick a focal point, and what I mean by that is an area where there's still colour. This is obviously optional. The focal point i'm picking is his glasses.
Now remember the coloured layer we hid? Well unhide it duplicate it and hide it again. I erased everything other than the red in brendon's glasses and kept this layer on normal.
IT'S TIME FOR SELECTIVE COLOURING!
go to layer > new adjustment layer > selective colouring.
NEUTRALS : Black: 100
BLACKS: Black: 100
that made everything look just a tad better! (:
Now take this colour (#030f22) and set it to exclusion 100 %
Now take this texture made by
loriwatanabe i assume, and put it on screen 59% anywhere on your image.
Place this texture made by
iconraven on normal 20%
Take this texture made by ( I don't know please tell me ): )and place it on screen 100%
Sorry another selective coluringg! This is to increase the black and white contrast!
WHITES: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow: 100
Black: -100
NEUTRALS: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow : -10
Black: 100
BLACKS: Everything 100
Yours should look something like this :'D :
ALMOST DONEEEE. NOW GET THIS IMAGE BY
rxpture AND PASTE IT UNDERNEATH THE EXCLUSION LAYER.
Erase the areas which cover the face but try to keep it as if it seeping over the person / item in the picture.
For example keep it on the shoulders or even on some parts of the face.
IT'S ALL UP TO YOU~
The final image should somehow resemble this:
PSD!! YOU'RE DONE OMGSH. Now here are some examples:
I'D LOVE TO SEE YOUR RESULTS
