I'm using Photoshop CS4 , and I guess it can be translateable if you skip a step

Okay of course first of all you need to start off with a picture. There should be a certain colour that you want to bring out, like only the reds, or only the greens, or only the blues etc. I chose a picture with lots of colour in it credit to: http://www.flickr.com/photos/yvestown/113258480/

1. This is the picture i'm using, I cropped it to my liking.

2. Now duplicate your layer (ctrl-j) and desaturate it (ctrl-shift-u)
set this layer to screen
Depending on your image you might want to repeat this step if your picture is dark, I had to re-duplicate the desaturated-screen layer.
Now I duplicated that desaturated layer yet again and set it to soft light instead of screen.
This will dull your picture, and increase contrast so the colours become more precise.
My picture now looks like this:

3. Make a new selective colour layer.
WHITES: black- +8
NEUTRALS: cyan- +3
magenta- -2
yellow- +1
black- +10
BLACKS: black: +7

This will pump up the blacks causing your picture to darken, and will also add a bit more blue to your picture.
My outcome so far:

4. Make a curves layer!
FIRST POINT: 20, 0
SECOND POINT: 133, 140
THIRD POINT: 219, 205
This will lighten your picture, and increase the contrast (:

5. Make a new hue/saturation layer.
MASTER: saturation: 30
lightness: 7
Now choose the colour you want to show in your picture, I'll choose red. Now go to red and increase the saturation to about +5.
Go to all the other colours, and decrease their saturation to -100. So all the colours but red should NOT be showing.
This is my final outcome:

Now here are some examples of other colours saturated in this picture instead of red.

Here are some other examples of different pictures with this effect:

I'D LOVE TO SEE YOUR RESULTS
